Based on whether the base station uses beam refinement, one or more parameters for transmitting the first random access message can be determined, and the first random access message can be transmitted to the base station and based on the one or more parameters.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques for beam refinement via physical random access channel (PRACH) repetition. A method that may be performed by a network entity includes determining resources to monitor for a PRACH transmission sent from a user equipment (UE) as part of a random access channel (RACH) procedure, performing receive beam sweeping when receiving PRACH repetitions sent using the determined resources, using results of the receive beam sweeping to refine one or more beams and to select a refined beam of the refined one or more beams, and using the selected refined beam for at least one of receiving a subsequent message from the UE as part of the RACH procedure or sending a subsequent message to the UE as part of the RACH procedure.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for random access procedures and beam refinement for wireless communications. A base station may repeat a transmission of a random access message 2 to a user equipment (UE) on a plurality of physical downlink control channel (PDDCH) candidates to improve reception of the random access message 2 and provide for selection of a refined beam. The UE may receive the random access message 2 on the plurality of repeated PDCCH candidates during a random access response window. The UE may select an offset based on a strongest of the plurality of PDCCH candidates. The UE may transmit a random access message 3 on resources indicated by the random access message 2 that are time shifted by the offset. The base station may select a beam for transmitting a random access message 4 based on the offset.

The set of modulations may be determined based at least in part on whether a signal strength satisfies a signal strength threshold. The UE may transmit the random access message based at least in part on the determined set of modulations. The random access message may include a physical uplink shared channel modulated using the determined set of modulations. Numerous other aspects are provided.

The method also includes measuring characteristics of the channel in the primary band. The method estimates channel characteristics of the secondary band based on the primary band characteristics measurements. The estimating may occur without measuring signals in the secondary band. Further, the method may report the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band and receive an indication of a secondary cell group, based on the estimated channel characteristics of the secondary band.

Abstract: An interference metric measured at a specific antenna may differ from interference metrics at different antennas. As a result, any actions based on the interference metric may unduly be influenced by such difference. In some implementations, an apparatus or device reports an overall interference metric that accounts for spatial variations in interference metrics at different antennas. An example method includes measuring, by a user equipment, an interference metric at each antenna of two or more antennas for wireless signals transmitted by a base station, generating an overall interference metric based on the interference metrics for the two or more antennas, and transmitting, by the user equipment, the overall interference metric to the base station.
