摘要： A printing machine that records information about resources expended to carry out a printing request. The recorded resource information may include quantities of particular paper types and colored toner needed to satisfy the printing request. Subsequently, before carrying out another printing request, the printing machine uses the recorded information to make a prediction or estimate of resources required to carry out the printing request. The printing machine thus reduces uncertainty about whether there are sufficient resources to satisfy the next request, and alleviates the burden of maintaining excessive consumables in inventory.

摘要： A method of registering images on a user interface with a screen display in which separate electronic pages corresponding respectively with the first and second sides of an electronic duplex page are displayed on the user interface screen display simultaneously with a first image on the first side being disposed in a first position and a second image on the second side being disposed in a second position. The second image is moved on the screen display, relative to the first image so that the second image is disposed in the first position and is aligned with respect to the first image in a selected aligned relationship. Each of the separate electronic pages has a transparent background so that substantial portions of the second image are visible on the screen display even when the first image is superposed with respect to the second image. As a result of positioning the first and second images on the screen display, a hardcopy duplex print, reflecting the selected aligned relationship obtained through moving the second image on the screen display, is producible.

摘要： There is provided a printing system having a finishing apparatus for receiving and processing a job, with the finishing apparatus having an adjustable finishing component adapted to perform a finishing operation on one or more print media sheets. The printing system includes a controller for receiving a programmed finishing parameter, the programmed finishing parameter indicating a manner in which the job is to be finished. The printing system further includes an actuator for moving the adjustable finishing component in a selected direction. In operation, the controller receives the programmed finishing parameter and converts it into a set-up signal, the set-up signal varying as a function of the programmed finishing parameter. In turn a set-up image is generated with the set-up signal and the set-up image, which includes a target indicator, is used, in conjunction with the actuator, to adjust the adjustable finishing component.

摘要： The handling of copy sensitive jobs in an electronic reprographic printing system comprises a unique bindexer sheet routing operation to ensure job integrity when printing copy sensitive jobs using multiset scheduling. A bindexer bin fill pattern is used which is unidirectional and begins at the same bin for each sheet of the set. Job recovery for copy sensitive jobs can include purging and remarking sets and partial sets to a greater extent for copy sensitive jobs than that required for non-copy sensitive jobs. The unique jobs recovery preserves the uniqueness of the copy sensitive jobs while improving the overall job recovery productivity for non-copy sensitive jobs.

Specified sheets are automatically purged to a specified location in response to such detection. 摘要： An improved fuser cleaning purge cycle system of cleaning imaging material from a fuser (particularly, a fuser roll) of a copy reproducing apparatus after an inadvertent interruption of the operation of the apparatus, such as by a paper jam, in which the fuser was potentially contaminated with imaging material from a copy sheet being fused, wherein the reproducing apparatus has an alternative duplex copying path; comprising, automatically, sequentially feeding a preset limited number of preexisting conventional clean copy sheets in the copy reproducing apparatus through the fuser to function as fuser cleaning sheets to remove the potentially contaminating imaging material, then feeding the same fuser cleaning sheets through the alternative duplex copying path back to and through the fuser a second time, with sheet inversion, so that they are inverted before feeding through the fuser the second time, and then purging these fuser cleaning sheets. The fuser cleaning cycle may be automatically initiated in response to sensing that a copy sheet was stopped in the fuser during the interruption of the operation of the reproducing apparatus. Preferably, the preset limited number of sheets used is four or less, yet, preferably, every area of the circumference of a fuser roll is contacted by at least one side of one fuser cleaning sheet a minimum of four times during this fuser cleaning cycle.

摘要： What is disclosed is a novel system and method for selecting a printer in a document reproduction environment comprising a plurality of networked printing devices. In one embodiment, a document is received which is to be printed and a set of image quality requirements specific for the document are determined based on the document's image content. A threshold quality expectation level is set for the document based on the set of image quality requirements. Device specific image quality metrics are obtained for each of the networked printing devices and then compared with the threshold quality expectation level. A printing device which best exceeds the threshold quality expectation level is selected as a result of the comparison. The document is sent to the selected networked printing device. If none of the networked printing devices is found to meet the threshold then an operator is signaled that the document cannot be printed.
