Abstract: There is a need to provide an image generator and an image generation method capable of avoiding wasting a normal printed matter if any in sheets of paper output after an occurrence of waste paper. When paper contains an abnormal image, the paper is detected as waste paper based on a read result from an image read sensor. Detection of the waste paper allows an image generator to perform reprint from a print job for the waste paper. Normal-image paper may be contained in sheets of paper output between detection of the waste paper and the reprint to be performed. In this case, the normal-image paper is used as a normal printed matter and is avoided from being consumed wastefully.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a developer bearing member, a fixing unit including a heating member, a rotary member which is heated by the heating member, and a nip area where the rotary member comes into contact with a sheet, and configured to perform fixing by heating a developer image transferred to the sheet and fixing the developer image to the sheet in the nip area, and a control unit configured to execute, while the fixing is not performed, a mode in which the image bearing member is rotated with the developer bearing member being in a separated position and the heating member is controlled such that a temperature of a portion of a surface of the rotary member, after the rotary member passes through the nip area, is maintained higher than the temperature of the portion during the fixing.

Abstract: An image reading device includes an image reading unit, a conductive member, a switching portion, and a switching control portion. The image reading unit includes a light emitting portion and a light receiving portion. The light emitting portion irradiates light on a document sheet that is conveyed while in contact with an upper surface of a plate-like contact member. The light receiving portion outputs image data corresponding to light reflected from the document sheet. The conductive member is provided on a lower surface of the contact member. The switching portion is switched between an on-state and an off-state so as to select between a state where the conductive member is grounded or a state where the conductive member is not grounded. The switching control portion controls switching of the switching portion.
