摘要:
The apparatus comprises a housing that accommodates a stack or row of two or more axially aligned tires to be recapped and forms a toroidal chamber around them. Each of the tires are initially prepared for recapping with a band of precured tread rubber around the tire and a flexible envelope having a U-shaped cross section fitted around the band and extending radially inwardly along the tire sidewalls. When the enveloped tires are positioned within the apparatus annular sealing members at opposite ends of the apparatus and a series of annular sealing rings between the tires impinge against the envelopes and cooperate to provide a continuous seal for the toroidal chamber. Means are provided for maintaining a fluid pressure inside of each tire through a central manifold, and a heated fluid such as steam is supplied to the sealed toroidal chamber at a pressure less than pressure inside the tires to cure the bond between the tread rubber and each tire.

Retreading of vehicle tires is accomplished by forming an assembly consisting essentially of a tire carcass having a circumferential face, profiled tread means of elastomeric material superimposed upon the circumferential face and a bonding material between the carcass and the tread means. The assembly is confined in a flexible fluid-tight envelope, the interior of the envelope is exhausted of at least the major portion of entrapped air, and a pressure differential is established between the interior and the exterior of the envelope in a sense exerting pressure upon the latter and expelling residual air confined between the circumferential face and tread means. The assembly is then vulcanized for permanently bonding the tread means to the circumferential face.

Tire recapping apparatus utilizes a hoop, larger in diameter than the casings to be recapped, over which the bent-up edge of a lower elastic membrane is everted, and the bent-down edge of a similar upper membrane is drawn, for sealing. A tire casing with recap strip in place, enveloped between the membranes, contains an inner tube preliminarily inflated to roundness through a hose leading through the upper membrane. the membranes are then evacuated to apply atmospheric pressure against the assembly, supporting the rounded tube between the beads. Thereafter free communication of ambient air is permitted through the hose to the tube; when vulcanized in a pressure chamber the tube pressure rises and falls with the pressure in the chamber, maintaining the shape of the casing undistorted without any air pressure connection from outside the chamber.

A vehicle tire construction and method for retreaded (or new) tires involving the use of a single patch, or two patches of cord of large mesh extending laterally of the tire casing between the buffed surface and tread rubber. The patch has stretchable or elastic cords, an intermediate portion thereof being connected to the cord ply layer of the casing and the ends projecting about half way or more of the sidewalls, and possibly as far as the beads, to vent air pockets which tend to accumulate. The patch makes use of the porous nature of the buffed surface.

The invention is a method and apparatus for bonding and shaping retread stock to a tire casing. A pair of circumferentially mating mold elements engage the tread area of a tire to be retreaded. The mols are divided along a horizontal mating plane and are supported in aligned relationship within a pair of substantially hemispherical pressure chamber members adapted for closing and opening about the tire. Centering plates are provided to locate the tire concentrically within the mold and to form an internal pressure chamber within the tire. The internal pressure chamber is pressurized forcing the tire against the mold elements. Subsequently the outer chamber or chambers are pressurized to a pressure equal to the internal pressure. The centering or bead plates are then displaced from engagement with the tire. Heat is applied for bonding and shaping the tread stock to the tire casing.

MTEHOD OF RECAPPING TIRES COMPRISING THE FIRST STEP OF FORMING AN ASSEMBLY CONSISTING OF A CARCASS, A PROFILED TREAD SUPERIMPOSED UPON THE OUTER SURFACE OF THE CARCASS, AND A LAYER OF BINDING MATERIAL SANDWICHED BETWEEN THE OUTER SURFACE AND THE TREAD WITH MARGINAL PORTIONS OF THE TREAD AND LAYER EXTENDING TO OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE CARCASS, THE SECOND STEP OF ESTABLISHING A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CARCASS AND THE TREAD ACROSS THE MARGINAL PORTIONS OF THE LAYER, AND THE THIRD STEP OF PERMANENTLY BINDING THE LAYER TO THE TREAD AND CARCASS.
