Improved third, tag, axle for a standard two-axle log-carrying trailer to permit carrying additional load. The inventive third axle assembly is pivotally linked directly to the bunk of a standard log trailer bogie by two, laterally-spaced hitch assemblies that permit vertical motion of the third axle, but not lateral movement. The inventive third axle assembly increases the payload capacity of the trailer with better maneuverability. A pivoting cone support and centering assembly is used to insure proper alignment of the tag axle during transport and when first unloaded. By following the bunk, the inventive axle more closely follows the tractor front wheel path during turns, rather than worsening the cut-across effect of ordinary turn geometry. That is, the inventive tag axle tracks more nearly in the proper lane, tending significantly less to cut across inside the tractor turn in both left and right turns, and thus is a safer rig.

Pivotable bunk assemblies (150, 160) having left and right portions are pivotably mounted to the trailer side rails (105), the bunk portions pivotable between a deployed position extending over the trailer and a non-deployed position. A top frame (130) is hingedly attached to the upper beam and engages the bunk assemblies when it is in the closed position. Deployable, load-bearing sidewalls (102) are also optionally provided. The trailer is easily convertible between a configuration suitable for hauling logs in the deployed bunk assemblies and a configuration suitable for hauling other product—for example, wood chips or the like—with the bunk assemblies non-deployed, and the sidewalls deployed.

A holding rack for mounting on truck tailgates is disclosed. The inventive holding rack is used with a truck bed to securely haul loads with a truck. The holding rack broadly includes a rack body for receiving the load, a hold-down mechanism that attaches to the rack body to engage the load, and a support frame. The support frame attaches to the tailgate and shiftably receives the holding rack and thereby permits placement of the rack in a stored position and in a load-supporting position where the load is secured while the tailgate is in its upright, latched position.
