摘要: In some embodiments, an apparatus includes an introducer sheath and a dilator. The introducer sheath can include a body portion and a tip portion. The body portion can be coupled to the tip portion via a seal portion. The dilator can be configured to be inserted into a lumen defined by the introducer sheath such that the dilator can engage with the tip portion and translate the tip portion relative to the body portion such that the tip portion moves the seal portion from a biased neutral configuration to an extended configuration for delivery of the apparatus to a location in a patient's body. The seal portion can have a larger outermost diameter in the neutral configuration than in the extended configuration.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide swallowable devices, preparations and methods for delivering drugs and other therapeutic agents within the GI tract. Many embodiments provide a swallowable device for delivering the agents. Particular embodiments provide a swallowable device such as a capsule for delivering drugs into the intestinal wall or other GI lumen. Embodiments also provide various drug preparations that are configured to be contained within the capsule, advanced from the capsule into the intestinal wall and degrade to release the drug into the bloodstream to produce a therapeutic effect. The preparation can be operably coupled to delivery means having a first configuration where the preparation is contained in the capsule and a second configuration where the preparation is advanced out of the capsule into the intestinal wall. Embodiments of the invention are particularly useful for the delivery of drugs which are poorly absorbed, tolerated and/or degraded within the GI tract.

摘要: An introducer set includes an introducer and dilator along with an extension in a sealed sterile peal open package. The extension is available for use during procedures where the puncture access site to the patient is close enough to the site to be treated in the patient that the physician's hands and/or head may be positioned in the fluroscopic area while the physician is attempting to maneuver a wire guide to a desired location. When the extension is attached to the introducer, the physician may perform a procedure, such as an antigrade stick in the lower leg of a patient, while maintaining their hands and head outside of the fluroscopic area while direct radiation is being supplied and the wire guide is being maneuvered to a desired treatment location. After the wire guide has been properly positioned and the radiation has been terminated, the extension may be disconnected from the introducer and the remaining portions of the procedure (guide catheter insertion, balloon catheter insertion and dilation, etc.) may proceed in a known manner. The extension need only be in the range of ten to thirty centimeters to allow the physician to work a safe distance from the fluroscopic area undergoing direct radiation.

摘要: A balloon structure includes a proximal balloon portion having a first internal volume, a distal balloon portion having a second internal volume, and a central balloon portion disposed between and joined with the proximal and distal balloon portions. The central balloon portion has a third internal volume isolated from the first and second internal volumes. A first lumen is associated with the third internal volume to direct pressure to the third internal volume for inflation of the central balloon portion. At least one second lumen is associated with the first and second internal volumes to direct pressure to the first and second internal volumes for inflation of the proximal balloon portion and the distal balloon portion. Whereby, upon inflation, the central balloon portion dilates, or delivers other treatments to tissue in the passage, with the proximal and distal balloon portions limiting movement of the balloon structure in the passage.

摘要: Distal tips for use with delivery catheters are disclosed that are configured to maintain complete engagement between the distal tip and a distal opening of a sheath component of the delivery catheter so as to prevent separation therebetween and/or to prevent fish-mouthing of a distal leading edge of the sheath component during in vivo use. Distal tips so configured realize one or more of the objectives of safer tracking of the delivery catheter through the vasculature, safe crossing of the delivery catheter through structural components of the vasculature and heart, such as through native valves, and safe removal of the delivery catheter post deployment.

摘要: An introducer set (1) for providing vascular access in a patient's body comprises an Introducer sheath (10) and a dilator (20). The introducer sheath (10) has a tubular body (11) made of flexible material with a distal portion (12), a proximal portion (13) and an inner surface, the proximal portion (13) being configured to be inserted into a patient's vessel to allow a medical device (100) to be inserted through the introducer sheath (10) into the patient's vessel. The tubular body (11) of the introducer sheath has a wall thickness (d) of 0.3 mm or less. The dilator (20) has a body (21) with a proximal portion (23), a distal portion (22) and an outer surface, the dilator (20) being insertable into the introducer sheath (10) such that its proximal portion (23) extends proximally of the introducer sheath (10) when the dilator (20) is inserted in the introducer sheath (10). At least one of the dilator (20) and the introducer sheath (10) comprises a stiffening structure (25) imparting stiffness to the tubular body (11) of the introducer sheath (10), wherein said stiffening structure (25) can be released, removed or otherwise deactivated.
