In particular, the RAN may receive resource requests from a first WCD and a second WCD, both WCDs contending for a resource of the given sector. Based on the each WCD's active sets of sectors, the RAN may grant the resource to one of these WCDs. Preferably, the RAN grants the resource to the WCD that is more likely to benefit from use of the resource.

    摘要: An access network may be maintaining data indicating which of its coverage areas have a short occupancy time. The access network may then conduct a first paging of an access terminal in each coverage area in a first set of coverage areas, the first set including a subset of coverage areas having a short occupancy time. Thereafter, the access network may determine that it has not received a response to the first paging from the access terminal during a first timeout period, which is preferably shorter than a predefined paging timeout period. In response, the access network may conduct a second paging of the access terminal in only each coverage area in the subset of coverage areas (i.e., the coverage area(s) in the first set of coverage areas that have the short occupancy time).

    摘要: A mobile station transmits a message by transmitting an access probe that includes the message preceded by a preamble. The mobile station selects the length of the preamble from among a first preamble length and a second preamble length. The second preamble length is greater than the first preamble length. The mobile station makes the selection based, at least in part, on the distance between the mobile station and the mobile station's primary base transceiver station (BTS). If the distance is greater than a threshold distance, the mobile station selects the second preamble length. If the distance is less than the threshold distance, the mobile station selects the first preamble length, provided that an idle handoff to a neighboring BTS that is more than the threshold distance away is unlikely.

    摘要: A method and system is disclosed for selectively scheduling control channel messages ahead of traffic channel data. When a RAN in a wireless communication system operating at least according to IS-856 determines that a delay condition exists in the transmission of a particular control packet to access terminals, the RAN will determine if there is a particular traffic packet in active transmission that is classified according to best effort service (or similarly-characterized service class), and further if at least a threshold number of a nominal number of time-slot segments of the particular traffic packet remain untransmitted. If such a traffic packet is identified, the RAN will cancel transmission of the particular traffic packet and replace it with immediate transmission of the particular control packet.

    摘要: A method and system is disclosed for enhanced setpoint adjustment during extended frame decoding. In accordance with an example embodiment, upon determining that a frame transmission from an access terminal has not been successfully decoded during a nominal frame period, a base station will commence an extended decoding interval. The base station will also determine a transition point time that is within a range of times from the beginning to the end of the extended frame decoding interval. The determination of the transition point time will be based on the nominal setpoint in place during the preceding nominal frame period. Upon reaching the transition point time, the base station will increase the current (nominal) setpoint. Accordingly, the setpoint for the access terminal may be increased at a point in time that precedes the completion of the extended decoding interval.

The selection will be made during an interval between IS-2000 idle-state scans, thereby reducing or eliminating the possible need for idle-state handoffs during idle-state scans, and resulting in shorter idle-state scans and better IS-856 performance.

During transmission of a packet from an access network to an access terminal, the access terminal determines that the packet should theoretically be transmitted to the access terminal in fewer timeslots in another sector than the number of allowed timeslots remaining for the packet transmission in a current sector. In response, the access terminal abandons packet transmission in the current sector and hands off to the other sector, in an effort to increase throughput and save air interface resources.
