Abstract:
A power transmission belt having a flexible chain link midportion 11 defining a longitudinally continuous belt structure having opposite laterally outer side portions. Mounting elements 14,15 protrude from the side portion at spaced intervals longitudinally of the belt and side elements 16 are freely adjustably mounted one each to the protruding mounting element portions 15. The side elements define an outer surface for engaging the sidewall of a drive pulley V-groove. The invention further comprehends the provision of positioning elements 26 for retaining the side elements on the mounting elements, with the outer surfaces 17 of the side elements generally parallel to the V-groove sidewalls of the pulley for facilitating facial engagement of the side elements with the sidewall of the pulley groove when brought thereinto.
Abstract:
A variable speed pulley having rearrangement structure for causing uniform distribution of a plurality of force applying elements utilized to control the width of the pulley groove as a function of the centrifugal forces developed during changes in the speed of the pulley. The rearrangement structure includes a coil spring connected in the structure to permit relative rotational movement between the fixed and movable pulley sheave halves as a result of changes of the force applied to the movable pulley sheave half during driving operation of the pulley. The rearrangement structure effectively minimizes vibration and noise by providing improved uniformity in the distribution of the force applying elements both in the steady state and speed and force changing conditions of the pulley.
Abstract:
A bicycle ergometer includes an eddy current brake having a rotor assembly including an iron material having a carbon content of 0.12% or less and a silicon content of 0.35% or less, a stator provided in the rotor assembly, a plurality of exciting coils provided on the stator, and a power source for energizing the exciting coils. The ergometer includes an input panel for inputting physical attributes of the user, e.g., age and sex, a pulse sensor for measuring the heart rate of the user at rest and during exercise on the ergometer, an arithmetic control circuit for calculating a training program and heart rate range and for controlling the eddy current brake to present a load to the user which will maintain the user's heart rate in a predetermined range. The method of using the ergometer enables a user to select a physical strength program and a weight reduction program with the selected program reflecting the age, sex, and the present physical condition of the user.
Abstract:
An electron gun used in a color picture tube having means for emitting three electron beams toward the fluorescent screen, and main lenses for focusing the electron beams on the fluorescent screen. The main lenses are constituted by two envelopes spaced out from each other and adapted to surround the electron beams, and two electrode plates located on the confronting end surfaces of the envelopes and provided with three apertures aligning on a line for conducting the three electron beams. At least one of the two electrode plates is recessed relative to another electrode plate and disposed inside the envelope, and the recessed electrode plate is structured such that non-rotational symmetry of the lens caused by the recess of the electrode is corrected.
Abstract:
A belt-type torque control system wherein a power transmission belt is entrained about a pair of variable speed pulleys. One of the pulleys includes coaxially mounted pulley halves, one of which is fixed to a drive shaft and the other of which is axially and rotatively movably mounted thereto. A coil spring extends between the movably mounted coil half and a spring retainer fixed to the shaft urging the movable pulley half toward the fixed pulley half. The coil spring causes a variation in the spacing between the pulley halves as a function of the belt force applied thereto in operation of the drive. The angular displacement of the movable pulley half is sensed by a control including sensing elements associated with the movable pulley half and sensing elements associated with the fixed pulley half so as to provide a differential angle, or phase, difference signal which is used by the control for adjusting the other adjustable pulley, thereby to maintain the adjustable pulley with which the sensing means is associated within a preselected range of angular displacement between the fixed and movable pulley halves thereof.
Abstract:
A V-section cog belt having a rubber body provided with longitudinally spaced inner cogs defining an inner surface. The belt is provided with conventional tensile cords extending longitudinally thereof. Rigid metal reinforcement members are provided in the cogs extending transversely across the belt in outwardly spaced relationship to the inner surface thereof. The reinforcement members may have any one of a plurality of different configurations, including tubular configurations and solid cross section configurations. The outer and inner surfaces of the tubular configurations may be similar or different as desired. In one form, the reinforcement members are spring plates. The reinforcement members may be provided as single members in each of the cogs or a plurality of members in the cogs as desired.
