摘要: A radio communication system comprises a communication channel between a transmitter (108) having a plurality of antennas (110) and a receiver (114) having at least one antenna (110). In such a system the communication channel comprises a plurality of paths (112) having a range of characteristics. Data for transmission is generated by one or more applications (102) and has one or more categories assigned to it, for example by the addition of tags by a tagging block (204) indicating its importance or other requirements. Depending on the assigned categories and the characteristics of the paths (112), the data is mapped to one or more of the transmitter's antennas (110) to select a suitable transmission path (112).

摘要: The invention relates to a wireless network which includes a plurality of network nodes, each of which includes a radio device with a respective radio clock supply and is arranged to exchange data via a wireless medium, and also includes a user interface for the exchange of data between the associated radio device and at least one user. At least one user of a network node receives a user clock, being independent of the radio clock, from a user clock supply of the relevant network node. Each network node is arranged to determine, in response to events specified by a central network node, a time value related to the relevant application clock. The central network node transmits at least the last time value formed by a selected network node. Each network node forms the difference between the last two time values determined and synchronizes the frequency of its user clock supply in dependence on the comparison of the difference between its last two time values determined with the difference between the last two time values of the selected network node.

摘要: In order to enable isochronous data to be transmitted over communications systems which may introduce timing jitter each packet of isochronous data is provided with a timestamp which indicates to a receiver the time at which a packet should be processed. The receiver notes the time the first packet of a data stream arrive and adds a given offset time which is greater than or equal to the maximum jitter to produce a time t1. Each succeeding packet is processed at a time t=t1+(Tn−T1), where T1 is the timestamp in the first data packet and Tn is the timestamp in the current packet. Thus the processing at the receiver is dependent on the relative times of arrival of the packets rather than the absolute times defined by the timestamps.
