Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a first wireless device may request to transmit data during a transmission opportunity of a second wireless device. The request may also indicate a duration of time for which permission to transmit is requested. In some aspects, the second wireless device may send a response message to the first wireless device indicating the first wireless device has been granted permission to transmit during a transmission opportunity of the second wireless device. The response may include an indication of a period of time for which permission to transmit has been granted. In an embodiment, the response may include an indication of a period of time the first wireless device may delay or sleep before an opportunity to transmit during a transmission opportunity of the second wireless device will be available.

A first wireless station provides a configuration indication value that specifies a maximum number of medium access control layer service data units (MSDUs) that may be included in each medium access control layer protocol data unit (MPDU), or in each aggregated MPDU (A-MPDU), received by the first wireless station. A second wireless station receives the configuration indication value from the first wireless station, and in response, transmits only MSDUs (or A-MSDUs) having no more than the specified maximum number of MSDUs to the first wireless station. The configuration indication value can be included in various elements transmitted between the first and second wireless stations, including for example, a high throughput (HT) capabilities element, a very high throughput (VHT) capabilities information field, a VHT operation element or an add block acknowledge (ADDBA) response frame.

Systems, methods, and devices for securely communicating data are described herein. In some aspects, a station is configured to communicate with an access point. A relay includes an uncontrolled port and a controlled port. The relay is configured to forward association, authentication, and secure relay setup frames between the station and the access point through the uncontrolled port. The relay is configured to forward data packets between the station and the access point through the uncontrolled port once the station establishes a relay relationship with the relay.

Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, an access point is configured to receive a request for relay connection and to transmit a message to at least one relay based on the received request for relay connection. The message comprises an instruction to transmit a setup response frame. A station is configured to transmit the request for relay connection to the access point and to select one of the at least one relay based on at least one setup response frame received from at least one of the at least one relay. The selected one of the at least one relay is configured to relay data packets between the station and the access point.

A method for wireless communications is disclosed that includes receiving a plurality of requests to transmit data from a plurality of apparatuses; determining resource allocation for a set of apparatuses in the plurality of apparatuses, wherein the determination is based on the plurality of requests; and transmitting a message comprising the resource allocation to the set of apparatuses to permit data transmission. Another method for wireless communications is disclosed that includes contending for access to a medium based on a request, by an apparatus, with a plurality of other apparatuses; receiving a message, the message comprising a resource allocation based on requests from the apparatus and the other apparatuses, wherein the resource allocation permits data transmission from the apparatus and some of the other apparatuses; and transmitting data by the apparatus based on the message. Apparatuses for performing the methods are also disclosed.

Systems, methods, and devices for compressing block acknowledgment (ACK) frames/packets are described herein. In some aspects, a method of communicating in a wireless network includes a compressed block acknowledgment frame including a bitmap, the bitmap indicating receipt of a plurality of fragments of a single data unit. The method further includes transmitting the compressed block acknowledgment frame.

In some aspects, a method of wireless communication includes generating a control frame comprising a physical layer preamble having a signal field, the signal field including an indicator indicating the control frame is a control frame type of frame. Methods, devices, and computer program products for transmitting and receiving discovery and paging messages are described herein. In one aspect, an apparatus operable in a wireless communication system includes a receiver and transmitter. The receiver receives a registration packet from a first device. The registration packet indicates interest in a service provided by another device in a wireless communications network. The receiver further receives a discovery packet from a second device during a first discovery interval of a plurality of discovery intervals. The discovery packet advertises a service provided by the second device, and the plurality of discovery intervals include recurring time intervals when a plurality of devices are configured to transmit and receive discovery packets in the wireless communications network. The transmitter transmits a notification packet configured to enable the first device and the second device to communicate directly.

Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. Various processes for reducing the initial link set up time are described. In aspect a method in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes transmitting two or more network domain identifiers from an access point, each of the network domain identifiers being associated with a respective network service. The method further includes receiving an access request message for establishing the network service associated with at least one of the transmitted network domain identifiers.

Systems and methods for communicating in a wireless communication system are described. In one aspect a method in a wireless communication system includes assigning a first identifier at a first access point, the first identifier for establishing a link with the first access point. The method includes receiving from a device an access request message to establish the link, the access request message including a second identifier associated with a plurality of access points configured to provide the link, the plurality of access points including the first access point, the second identifier including a sequence of bits having a bit length, wherein the sequence of bits is based on the first identifier, and wherein the bit length of the sequence of bits is less than the first number of bits. The further includes transmitting an access response message establishing the link with the device and including the first identifier.
