An object is to provide a novel organometallic complex capable of phosphorescence and having high heat resistance. Alternatively, an object is to provide a light-emitting device with high added value. The objects are achieved by providing an organometallic complex which has a structure represented by a general formula (G1) or (G2) below and is formed in such a way that a corresponding one of pyrazine derivatives represented by general formulae (G0) and (G0′) below is ortho-metalated by a Group 9 or Group 10 metal ion, or by providing a light-emitting element and a light-emitting device including the organometallic complex.

Provided is a novel substance that can emit phosphorescence. Alternatively, provided is a novel substance with high emission efficiency. An organometallic complex in which a 4-arylpyrimidine derivative is a ligand and iridium is a central metal is provided. Specifically, an organometallic complex having a structure represented by a general formula (G1) is provided. In the general formula (G1), R1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 10 carbon atoms, R2 represents any of hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, R3 represents hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and Ar1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group having 6 to 10 carbon atoms.

It is an object of the present invention to collect a scarce metal such as iridium from a light-emitting element which is no longer used. A method for collecting a metal is provided in which an organic metal compound which can emit visible light from a triplet excited state at room temperature is heated, or an EL layer of a light-emitting layer containing an organic metal compound which can emit visible light from a triplet excited state at room temperature is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution, and the solution is heated, irradiated with microwaves or treated with acid water. According to the above method, resources of metals such as iridium or platinum, which are scarce metals, can be utilized efficiently.

The present invention provides an organometallic complex represented by the general formula (1), wherein each of R1 to R3 represents any one of hydrogen, a halogen group, an acyl group, an alkyl group, an alkoxyl group, an aryl group, a cyano group, and a heterocyclic group, and at least one of R1 to R3 represents an electron-withdrawing group; and M represents a Group 9 element or a Group 10 element, and when M is the Group 9 element, n=2, whereas when M is the Group 10 element, n=1. Such an organometallic complex can emit red phosphorescence with good spectral luminous efficiency which is closer to the chromaticity coordinates of red according to the NTSC standard.

The light-emitting layer includes a first organic compound having a hole-transporting property, a second organic compound having an electron transporting property, and an organometallic complex. A central metal of the organometallic complex is an element belonging to one of Group 9 and Group 10, and a ligand of the organometallic complex is a ligand having a pyrazine skeleton.
