摘要： A single-cylinder circular hosiery-making or knitting machine particularly for manufacturing tubular items closed at one of their axial ends, having a needle cylinder and a circular plate which coaxially faces the needle cylinder in an upward region. The circular plate is composed of two halves, a first half of which is pivoted to a first supporting structure about a diametrical axis which is substantially parallel to the diametrical connecting plane of the two halves of the circular plate. The first half of the circular plate is also provided with radial grooves which accommodate pairs of hooks which can be actuated along the corresponding groove so as to engage or release loops or portions of loops of knitting formed by the needles of the needle cylinder. Elements are provided for overturning the first half of the circular plate about the diametrical axis to transfer it from a first position, which is co-planar with respect to a second half of the circular plate, to a second position, which is overturned below the second half of the circular plate, and viceversa. The first half of the circular plate is rotatable, in the second position, rigidly with the needle cylinder about tile axis of the needle cylinder with respect to the second half of the circular plate.

摘要： A method for seaming two edges of a knitted tubular article to make the tubular article with a single-cylinder circular machine, starting from the elastic hem and finishing at the side of the toe which is left open. The method includes: (a) lifting a predetermined number of needles of a first semiring; (b) lifting further up the needles to remove the relevant stitches; (c) lifting at the same height a predetermined number of needles together with the stitches of the second semiring; (d) removing the stitches; (e) lowering the needles of the first semiring; (f) transferring the thus removed stitches, by overturning them, onto the relevant needles of the second semiring; (g) lifting the needles of the second semiring; (h) locating the pairs of overlapping stitches of each needle of the second semiring closely juxtaposed and coaxial to each other; (i) lifting further the needles of the second semiring; rotating with intermittent motion the needles cylinder and inserting step-by-step a linking needle within a pair of stitches thus lifted by providing it with the thread (F) used for the knitting of the article, without loss of continuity, and then removing it to make a linking stitch; (m) carrying out two or more knots after having executed the last linking stitch; (n) cutting the thread (F); (o) lowering the needles of the first semiring down to its cast off position.

The sock is designed to avoid sock pull down or drag down problems by utilizing a stabilizing band of elastic yarn knit in plated relationship with the body yarn and extending around the apex of the heel. The method of manufacturing this split-heel construction uses a circular hosiery knitting machine having short, medium and long butt needles. The needles are selectively lifted out of and dropped in to the knitting track of the machine to form the desired split-heel which prevents sock ride down.

摘要： A knitted athletic sock having a double terry cushion area having two sets of terry pile loops of differing sizes and shapes and staggered walewise with respect to one another to provide upstanding support and resist flattening of the terry loops for improved cushioning and moisture absorption. The sock preferably is of a terry construction throughout the entire foot except for a single jersey panel in the front ankle region to resist wrinkling and bunching of the sock in such region when worn. The sock also includes a mock rib elastic cuff having a relatively frequent rib repeat in the front shin area and a relatively infrequent rib repeat in the rear calf area to better accommodate different sizes and shapes of calves while resisting slippage of the cuff and leg portion of the sock along the wearer's leg. The cushion area of the sock is knitted by an improved method on a circular knitting machine by selectively positioning knitting needles at differing yarn receiving positions and feeding the two terry yarns at differing levels for receipt of one terry yarn by all needles and the second terry yarn by only selected needles. The two terry yarns are fed by feed fingers which are stationariy set and left in feeding position throughout the operation of the machine, the first terry yarn being fed to all needles throughout the entire knitting operation and the second terry yarn being automatically cut whenever a successive group of needles is positioned to receive only the first terry yarn, with the last needle receiving the second terry yarn carrying it to a cutting mechanism without requiring manipulation of the feed finger to a non-feeding position, whereby missed stitches of the second yarn are eliminated and faster operation of the machine is possible.

摘要： A transfer mechanism for transferring hosiery from a toe-closing machine to a hosiery boarding machine is disclosed which enables the labor content of hosiery production to be reduced. The hosiery is mechanically removed from the toe-closing machine and supported upon a transfer form at its welt end. The hosiery is then stretched and driven fully onto the transfer form. Thereafter a hosiery boarding form is inserted into the foot end of the hosiery to draw the hosiery thereonto while simultaneously turning it.
