A cuff is provided in an upper end of the sock body, and a toe and a heel are respectively formed at a front end and a rear end of the sock body. An instep is formed at an upside of the sock body, and a contracted opening section is formed in the instep adjacent to the toe. The contracted opening section includes a stitching line by which the contracted opening section is closed and seamed. Depending on the contracted opening section designed on the instep adjacent to the toe, the stitching line stays above the foot toes of a person who wears the sock body and prevents the foot toes from discomfort or injury induced by friction between the foot toes and the stitching line when the sock body is worn on a foot.

In some embodiments, a method comprises knitting one or more fibers to form a toe portion; knitting one or more fibers to form a first wing portion; and knitting one or more fibers to form a second wing portion. The tubular article is engaged by the pick-up hooks while the stitches of the last course of the knitted article are still held by the needles (5) of the knitting machine. The stitches of the last curse are then removed from the needles and the tubular article is removed from the needle cylinder (3) by means of the pick-up member (23). The two half-rings of pick-up hooks are overturned one onto the other, putting one of two opposite edges of the toe of the tubular article onto the other. The two edges are then sewn or linked.
