    摘要: A rotary joint for supplying and/or removing a fluid heat transfer medium to/from a rapidly rotating roll or drum supported upon journals. The rotary joint nipple threads into the journal bore and closely fitting complementarily shaped cylindrical surfaces on the journal end and joint nipple interengage to concentrically relate the joint to the journal, and engaging radial surfaces on the journal and nipple further coaxially position the joint with respect to the journal to prevent relative tilting. In an embodiment the joint nipple includes an internal seal ring axially biased against a counterseat to reduce the rotary joint axial dimension and permit utilization of wider spaced bearings which improves stability, balances bearing loads and increases bearing life.

    摘要: A swivel coupling device is designed for coupling together the mating ends of two tubular fittings forming part of a pressurized fluid, fuel or gas connection system between a fluid, fuel or gas supply and an output device. The device has two relatively rotatable coupling parts with mating flat faces rotatably secured together in face-to-face engagement. Each of the flat faces has a recess with a circular outer periphery matching that of the recess in the other part, and each part has a passageway extending through it to the recess from a point on its outer surface remote from the flat face. Suitable connecting fittings are provided for connecting the passageway on each part to a respective tubular fitting so that the fittings can be swivelled, via dual axes, omni-directionally, relative to one another while fluid, fuel or gas communication between the fittings is maintained through the passageways and recesses of the coupling.

    摘要: A fluid swivel, of the type that carries oil, natural gas, or other fluid between an undersea well or pipeline and a weathervaning ship, wherein the seal arrangement that prevents leakage of fluid is constructed to increase the seal lifetime and reduce the cost of the fluid swivel. The seal arrangement includes a recess (44, FIG. 2) in a first of the swivel parts and a seal assembly (46) therein which includes a pressure seal (50) and a backup ring (56). The backup ring has a dynamic side (64) lying adjacent to the portion (54) of the second swivel part that is sealed against, and has an opposite distal edge portion (72). The dynamic side of the backup ring has a tapered downstream portion (80) that is tapered at an angle A of no more than 30.degree. to the axis of rotation (16) of the fluid swivel, with the downstream edge (82) of the tapered portion lying on a downstream wall (86) of the first swivel part rather than overhanging it. A drain conduit (90) is provided to drain fluid from the distal side (66) of the backup ring to the dynamic side 64 to prevent a substantial pressure difference across it. The distal edge portion (72) of the backup ring is closely received in a slot (70) of the first swivel part to slide therein, and an O-ring (74) lies at the bottom of the slot to bias the backup ring out of the slot.

    摘要: A breakaway hose coupling with an integrated swivel mechanism for releasably joining two fluid dispensing devices, and for selectively disengaging such dispensing devices in response to a disengaging force in excess of a preselected value being exerted on said coupling device. The coupling (10) comprises a first valve assembly (12) for being secured on a first dispensing device and for selectively terminating the flow of fluid from such dispensing device when the coupling (10) is uncoupled. The coupling (10) further comprises a second valve assembly (14) with an integrated swivel mechanism (80) for being secured on a second dispensing device and for selectively terminating the flow of fuel from the second dispensing device when the coupling (10) is uncoupled. Further, vapor conduits (114, 116 and 118) are provided to accommodate the flow of recaptured fuel vapor through the coupling. The coupling (10) also includes automatic disconnect means for maintaining the first and second valve assemblies (12 and 14) in an engaged position in the absence of disengaging force in excess of a preselected value being applied to the coupling, and for disengaging the first and second valve assemblies in response to disengaging force in excess of said preselected value being applied to the coupling, whereupon the first and second valve assemblies (12 and 14) terminate the flow of fluid from their operatively associated dispensing devices.

    摘要: This invention pertains to a rotary joint for use with rotating machinery where the joint is conveying high temperature corrosive fluids such as molten salts. The joint includes both a stationary head to which external connections are made and a housing mounted on and rotating with a rotary apparatus with which the joint communicates. Alignment of the components is maintained through the interaction of two sleeve bearings disposed between a nipple coaxially extending from the head and the joint housing surrounding the nipple; the sleeve bearings being axially displaced from each other, the primary seal occupying an intermediate position. The primary seal is a spherical seal, interposed between a stationary nipple seal surface and a rotary housing sealing surface. The seal is preloaded by means of an external joint biasing support bracket to reduce leakage under conditions of low internal fluid pressures.
