    摘要: The invention is a device for providing a clamping force about a connection end of elastomeric hose or tubing. The device includes an at-least-twice-oriented polymer having a shrinkage response to each of at least two diameter reducing release temperatures, which is sized and formed into a band. The clamp is self-adjusting over a substantial working life. The band may be installed onto connection ends of hose or tubing and fixtures such as couplings, inserts or stems without the external application of heat, preferably preselecting the first diameter reducing release temperature to be at roughly room temperature. The clamp displays improved constrictive forces over prior art polymer clamps.

    摘要: The invention is a device for providing a clamping force about a connection end of elastomeric hose and tubing. The device includes a heat shrinkable polymer, having a diameter reducing release temperature, formed into a band. The band has a first nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter the band assumes upon being shrunk in free space and being smaller than the outside diameter of the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The band has a second nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter the band assumes upon being shrunk about the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The band also has a third nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter of the band after polymer orientation and before shrinkage, the third diameter being greater than the outside diameter of the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The first inside diameter is no greater than about 80 percent of the third inside diameter.

    摘要: A reclosable remote control pipe joint particularly suitable for use in fusion reactors and in other radioactive environments employs a spring to maintain sealing force between a sealing ring and a sealing face. The spring permits the pipe joint to remain intact despite mechanical disturbances of the pipes. A backup ring partially encloses the sealing ring to control thermal strain of the sealing ring. A closure system employs a plurality of pivoting arms and a movable roller assembly to clamp together the end fittings to seal the joint.

    摘要: A first pipe is connected to the wall of a container such as a larger pipe, tank or other vessel, wherein the transverse surface of one end of the first pipe is substantially flush with the inside surface of the portion of the wall of the container to which the first pipe is connected. The method for forming the pipe connection relies upon the plastic memory of the synthetic thermoplastic polymeric material from which the end portion of the first pipe and the portion of the wall of the container, to which the first pipe is to be connected, are formed. The diameter of a hole in the wall of the container is expanded in a cold condition in such a manner that the edges of the hole expand outwardly from the wall of the container while the diameter of the end portion of the first pipe is reduced in a cold condition such that the reduced diameter portion of the first pipe can be inserted into the expanded hole. The plastic memory of the synthetic thermoplastic polymeric material from which the end portion of the first pipe and the wall of the container, to which the first pipe is to be connected, are formed causes a tight connection to be formed.

    摘要: A connection of a first pipe to the wall of a second pipe or container is disclosed. A hole is formed through the wall of a second pipe or container which is of a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the first pipe. At least the connection end of the first pipe consists essentially of a polymer of ethylene or a copolymer of ethylene and a small quantity of mono-1-olefins having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The polymer preferably has a weight average molecular weight of above 200,000. The connection portion of the first pipe is cold-swaged and inserted into the hole. Due to the mechanical memory of the cold-swaged end of the first pipe, it recovers towards its original shape to form a firm connection between the first pipe and the second pipe or container wall. A sealant can be applied between the first and the second pipe. The connection end of the first pipe is preferably flared outwardly to add strength and to further prevent pulling out of the first pipe from the hole in the second pipe or container wall.
