Abstract:
A circuit for selectively diminishing the conductive interval of a pulse control circuit during plugging of a d.c. motor drive system. A thyristor is utilized to bypass a portion of an inductive winding in the charge reversal circuit of a commutating capacitor. The voltage on the capacitor then reverses itself in a shorter than normal time to allow a more rapid commutation of a main thyristor.
Abstract:
A control circuit for controlling the effective power to a load from a power source of substantially constant direct current voltage in which the amount of effective power delivered to the load is controlled by controlling the percentage of time that the load and the power source are interconnected. Included within the system is a switching device preferably of the solid-state type which is alternately placed in the conductive and nonconductive state to vary the percentage of time. Two forms are included, the first being essentially a low power form and the second a dual level type of control system in which it is possible to alternate selectively between two modes of operation to operate the control circuit in a high and low power mode. Also provided is the application of the dual mode system to a direct current motor control system for providing what in the art is known as plugging.
Abstract:
A solenoid actuated switching device for an electric motor control circuit for selectively connecting and disconnecting a pair of input terminals of an armature of an electric motor to a source of electrical power to selectively brake and reverse the rotation of the armature. Two solenoids move against respective sides of a pivoted arm member thereby actuating one of two switches, each having fixed and movable contacts. The first fixed contact is connected in circuit only after the first solenoid has been deenergized to retract the armature thereof, and the second fixed contact is connected only after the second solenoid has been deenergized to retract its armature.
Abstract:
A control system for controlling energy directed from a power source to a DC variable speed motor includes a main SCR, series connected with the motor, an oscillator, a sawtooth generator, a reference operational amplifier, and a firing pulse generator. The output of the sawtooth generator is summed with the output of the reference operational amplifier and directed to the firing pulse generator. When the summed output of the reference operational amplifier and the sawtooth generator exceeds the threshold voltage of the firing pulse generator, the firing pulse generator will fire to effect conduction of the main SCR to direct energy to the motor. A commutating circuit is provided for turning the main SCR off during each cycle of the oscillator. The commutating circuit includes a secondary SCR and a LC resonant circuit both of which are parallel connected to the main SCR. The LC resonant circuit acts to reverse bias the main SCR upon conduction of the secondary SCR. A regulated power supply is also provided to energize the various components of the control system. The regulated power supply includes a negative power supply which comprises an astable multivibrator and a diodecapacitor matrix for directly converting a positive voltage to a regulated negative voltage.
Abstract:
A soft-plugging control for a DC traction motor has a speed rheostat which regulates the duty cycle of variable width pulses applied by a power switch from a battery to the motor armature, means for algebraically summing the voltage across the power switch and the armature and means for decreasing the repetition rate of the pulses when said algebraic sum decreases below a predetermined magnitude as the armature voltage decays when said armature reverses direction.
Abstract:
A motor control means for cyclically reversing an electric motor. The motor control includes an electromagnetic switch comprising a transformer having an E-shaped core and a centertapped secondary winding, together with a pair of magnetic pole pieces carried by a rotatable shaft mounted in proximity with the transformer and driven by the motor to alternately cause the respective pole pieces to differentially influence the current flow through respective halves of the secondary winding and thereby produce a signal to effect reversal of the motor.
