Abstract: A hearing assistive system, comprises a personal communication device (10) and a head-worn device (20). The personal communication device (10) has a user interface (12) being adapted for user interaction, a processor (11) controlling the user interface (12) and being adapted to run an application program, a short-range radio (13), and an output transducer (15). The head-worn device (20) has an input transducer (24) adapted for converting sound into an electric signal applied to a processor (21) outputting a modified audio signal via an output transducer (25). The application program is adapted to generate and output a data packet (70) on an audio carrier via the output transducer (15). The head-worn device (20) has an audio signaling block (26) for detecting and decoding the data packet (70) received by the input transducer (24). The head-worn device (20) has a controller (27) for controlling the operation of a short-range radio (28). The audio signaling block (26) is adapted to detect a radio pair command included in the data packet (70), and to instruct the controller (27) to enter pairing mode for the short-range radio (28), accordingly.

Abstract: A hearing aid configuration managing system for configuring at least one hearing aid having a wireless connection to the Internet via a gateway. The hearing aid includes a processor controlling its configuration, and a memory containing configuration settings for customizing the configuration of the hearing aid. The remote server manages user accounts for multiple hearing aid users, including managing the configuration of the hearing aid, and creates a service level status change event for the account upon change of the service level status to a new configuration of the hearing aid. The remote server sends a configuration change instruction to the hearing aid via the gateway upon the occurrence of the service level status change event. The hearing aid processor stores new configuration settings in the hearing aid memory upon reception of the configuration change instruction, and changes the hearing aid to the new configuration.

Abstract: A method for authenticating a bonding procedure according to a short-range radio communication protocol between a wireless computing device and a hearing assistive device comprises steps of initiating a paring session for the short-range radio communication protocol by bringing the wireless computing device and the hearing assistive device into pairing mode, arranging the hearing assistive device in a predefined position relatively to the wireless computing device, establishing an acoustic signaling link between the wireless computing device and the hearing assistive device for exchanging secret elements as an out-of-band step of the pairing session, and calculating and storing a link key unique for the bonding of the wireless computing device and the hearing assistive device by using the exchanged secret elements.
