Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to make it easy to recognize a start point and an end point of each music piece, when a plurality of music pieces are broadcasted. A music piece broadcast end information bit, which is reversed in its logic when a broadcast of a music piece ends, is newly added to information to be multiplexed and transmitted.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing an integrated presentation of existing media program services and secondary media program services is described. The method comprises the steps of accepting a election of a secondary media program transmitted on a secondary media program channel; accessing a mapping to determine a primary media program channel associated with the selected secondary media program channel; commanding a first tuner module to receive conditional access information associated with the primary media program channel from the primary service provider; evaluating the conditional access information to determine if a second tuner is authorized to receive the secondary media program channel; and commanding a second tuner module to receive the secondary media program if the second tuner is authorized to receive the secondary media program channel.
Abstract:
Method for processing transmitter and program related data in an FM RDS receiver and receiver executing the method, providing a band scanning search for detecting FM RDS transmitters exceeding a predetermined reception quality level. To enhance efficiency in data processing and use of storage capacity, transmitter related data including tuning data is stored separately from program related RDS data. Per each detected transmitter a quality factor indicating the quality in reception quality thereof is being allocated to each detected RDS transmitter and stored in a first memory bank, along with the relevant tuning data. Per each program identification code carried in the RDS data of the so detected transmitters program related FM RDS data are being stored in a second memorybank, a linkage code defining the storage address within the second memory bank containing the program data carried by the relevant FM RDS transmitter being allocated to the transmitter data of each FM RDS transmitter and stored in the first memory bank.
Abstract:
There is described an FM receiver (29) including; an antenna (2) able to receive a high frequency signal from a transmitter; a high frequency stage (3); an oscillator (5); a mixer unit (30) able to provide a signal (S6) at an intermediate frequency (fIF); an FM demodulation stage (8); and an automatic frequency control stage (36) able to control the oscillator, so as to keep said intermediate frequency (fIF) of said signal (S6) constant. This receiver further includes a locked loop (32) arranged to enslave said intermediate frequency (fIF) from a pilot frequency (fp) present in the demodulated signal. One advantage of such a locked loop is that the intermediate frequency is enslaved so that the aliasing phenomenon does not prevent demodulation of the signals containing the RDS data.
Abstract:
To demodulate the RDS signal, the stereo-multiplex signal is multiplied in a first branch by the in-phase component of an oscillator filtered by a low-pass filter while decimated in its sampling rate and filtered by a high-pass filter while in a second branch it is multiplied by the quadrature component of the oscillator filtered by a low-pass filter decimated in its sampling rate, and filtered by a high-pass filter. An error signal to control the oscillator is calculated from the high-pass-filtered signals and the RDS bit clock. A clock generator generating the RDS bit clock is controlled by the first high-pass-filtered signal and by the oscillator. An RDS decoder, to whose input the first high-pass-filtered signal is applied. and an arithmetic unit which calculates the error signal from the high-pass-filtered signals and from the PDS bit clock are both clocked by the clock generator. The RDS data are retrievable from the output of the RDS decoder.
Abstract:
A method of masking interruptions in the playback of received radio signals is described, wherein lengthy interruptions are allowed only when modulation of the radio broadcast program currently being received is recognized as speech, and a modulation pause in the received radio signal is detected. This method permits complete masking of lengthy interruptions in playback or making them inaudible, where these interruptions are necessary, e.g., for analysis/testing for a transmission frequency of transmitted RDS information to be used as an alternative to a transmission frequency currently being received.
Abstract:
In a method for coding traffic hindrances encroaching on the street, in digitally coded traffic messages which contain, as elements, a location on a street and the extent and the direction of the traffic hindrance and which are decoded on the basis of a location table, in reported traffic hindrances that extend, based on their size, beyond a junction onto a different street, a further element codes the information, on which of the bifurcating streets, in which direction, and how far, the reported traffic hindrance extends.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for transmitting data via a radio transmitter, the data including at least one Internet address; a method for receiving data broadcast by a radio transmitter, the data including at least one Internet address; a radio receiver having a recognition circuit for the isolation of Internet addresses from received data transmitted by radio; and a method for controlling a radio receiver, or a device connected to the radio receiver, by data received by the radio receiver, the data including at least one Internet address, the at least one Internet address being formulated as a query for specific data made available by a provider, and the radio receiver or the device connected to the radio receiver being controlled as a function of data queried via a communication interface in accordance with the at least one received Internet address. The present invention makes possible the transmission, to a radio receiver according to the present invention or a device connected thereto, of displayable data or of data usable for controlling the receiver, with a particularly high data rate and data security, by using existing radio transmission systems such as RDS, and utilizing additional transmission capacities of the Internet.
Abstract:
Techniques and systems for controlling access to information broadcast over point-to-multipoint resources in radiocommunication systems are described. These techniques can be used to provide controllable access to broadcast information services, e.g., security quote services, sports information services, etc., which broadcast services can be provided in conjunction with more conventional cellular radiocommunication services, e.g., voice calls. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention enable subscribing users' equipment to output broadcast information using, for example, either a status variable within the remote equipment or encryption for which subscribing devices have a corresponding decryption key.
Abstract:
A radio includes storage and playback circuitry that interrupts and replaces a regular-programmed commercial with a sponsor's own advertisement or message. The sponsor company has the choice of using a series of different advertisements in place of a single advertisement that is repeated over and over, how long to play the advertisement, and which time periods of the day the advertisement will be played. The radio may or may not be equipped with an RDS separator.
