Abstract:
A ground station multiplexes audio digital data of a plurality of audio broadcasts, GUI data, and download audio data and transmits the multiplexed signal to a receiving side through a satellite. The receiving side displays a GUI screen corresponding to an audio broadcast. When a music information selection command is input on the display screen, an audio broadcast of a music program corresponding to the music information is selected. When a music information download command is input on the display screen, download audio data corresponding to the music information is output. The download audio data is stored to a storage device so as to download audio data corresponding to a desired music title.
Abstract:
A secondary satellite radio or broadcast channel is used to broadcast advertisement clips (e.g., audio clips) to a receiver for subsequent decoding and playback. The receiver is configured for different tiers of service, e.g., one that delivers substantially advertising-free content and another that delivers content that includes more significant amounts of advertising. The content delivered to both is the same content; however, for the service tier that includes more advertising, the advertisements broadcast on the secondary channel are interleaved into the content, preferably in such a way that the continuity of the content being delivered is not compromised.
Abstract:
A receiver is disclosed. The receiver includes a first antenna, a second antenna, a system controller, a national broadcast demodulator, a local broadcast demodulator, and an information output select device. The first antenna for receives a signal from a satellite that contains information of national interest. The second antenna receives a signal from a land-based transmitter that contains information of local interest. The national broadcast demodulator is coupled to the first antenna and the system controller. The national broadcast demodulator provides a first interrupt indicator to the system controller. The local broadcast demodulator is coupled to the second antenna and the system controller. The local broadcast demodulator provides a second interrupt indicator to the system controller. Upon receiving either the first or second interrupt indicator at the system controller, the system controller switches the information output select device between the national broadcast information and the local broadcast information. A method for providing a seamless transition between national broadcast information and local broadcast information for a receiver is also disclosed. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims. 37 CFR 1.72(b).
Abstract:
A business management method, a business management apparatus and a data broadcast delivery method are disclosed which allows contents to be broadcast over an unused bandwidth in satellite broadcasting so that the contents are stored and later reproduced as needed for quick access to a desired destination recorded in the contents. A data broadcast is assigned to an unused broadcast bandwidth over a broadcast band for transmitting programs in satellite broadcasting. The data broadcast over the unused bandwidth are stored onto a storage medium in a TV set. The stored data contents are sorted out by category for selective viewing by operation of the TV set. If the selected content offers e-commerce, a virtual shop handing desired offerings is accessed as per the content.
Abstract:
A digital RF receiver and method for providing regional data to a user acquired from a large geographic data broadcast. The RF receiver receives an RF signal containing a stream of broadcast data. The stream of broadcast data includes primary data and more geographically limited regional data. The receiver includes a device for selecting a user specific region, and a decoder for acquiring the regional data. The receiver further includes a data processor for processing the regional data and the selected user specific region to obtain regional data designated for the user specific region, and an output for outputting the regional data pertaining to the selected user specific region.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for providing preferred location specific content for interleaving into broadcast content including storing user preferences in user preference records, storing location specific content (LSC) in LSC records, and receiving, from the digital communications network, a location of the user client device. Embodiments typically include determining local date and time at the location of the user client device, creating preferred location specific content (PISC) records in dependence upon the LSC records, the user preferences, the location of the user client device, and the local date and time at the location of the client device, and downloading the PLSC records through the digital communications network to the user client device.
Abstract:
A multi-layer advertising arrangement. A user, by operating a prescribed switch on a radio receiver or the like, can mark content that is being received. The receiver then establishes an Internet connection and sends an index or bookmark stored as a result the user marking the content to an advertising broker. The advertising broker determines from the index or bookmark what programming corresponds to the content and determines what advertisers have purchased advertising rights associated with the time that the content was aired. The advertising broker then sends information to the computer that is used to display a menu. The menu provides links to multiple retailers that have purchased opportunities to have broadcast listeners sent links to their online retail sites.
Abstract:
A composite data stream is stored on a data storage medium. The composite data stream comprises a plurality of program channels to provide services such as satellite digital audio radio service (SDARS), among others. The program channels are multiplexed into the composite data stream, which also comprises control data for indicating where services are located in the composite data stream. A playback device is configured to access the composite data stream on the data storage medium, to demultiplex at least the program channels and to retrieve selected services from the data storage medium in response to user inputs by using the control data.
Abstract:
For the purpose of transmitting digital audio signals from recording studios to the various broadcasting stations of a broadcasting network, the data flow of the digital audio signals to be transmitted is initially reduced in accordance with a technique which utilizes the psychoacoustic phenomena of the human ear. Then groups of these data-reduced digital audio signals are respectively encoded in a baseband in accordance with a DS1-technique and combined to form respective DS1/M-signals. Finally, the thus produced DS1/M-signals are transmitted in accordance with the DSR technique by use of a wide-band transmission system to the individual broadcasting stations of the broadcasting network.
Abstract:
In various embodiments, an audio streaming service may provide a plurality of channels. On a particular channel, different types of content can be streamed to audio devices connected to that channel, including channel content, group content, and individual content. Channel content refers to same content that is streamed to all of the audio devices that are connected to the channel. Group channel refers to content that is selected for subgroups of the devices, and individual content refers to content that is selected for an individual device. Channel content may be transmitted to all the devices, then a period of group or individual content is provided, and then the devices are synced back into receiving the same channel content during a syncing window. Listeners can also interact with the content, such as skipping songs or adding songs to their personal collection.
