Abstract:
A photographic technique for producing a picture in which an individual whose picture is taken is seen jointly with a figurative character in such a way as to establish an apparent relationship therebetween. To carry out this technique, a camera is loaded with a light-sensitive film whose successive frames are partially pre-exposed so that each frame contains a latent image of a character. When the camera is set to place a particular frame behind the lens, the individual is then posed before the camera to occupy a predetermined position relative to the latent frame image. Upon actuation of the camera, a latent image of the individual is formed on the frame in juxtaposition to that of the character and the exposure of the frame is completed. The film is then developed and printed to provide the desired picture. '
Abstract:
A perfume container constituted by a plain glass bottle encased in a low-cost pouch of an ornamental fabric which transforms the appearance of the bottle to provide a container that appears to be custom-made and expensive, and in doing so imparts greater value to the perfume contents. The bottle has a predetermined geometric cross section, a flat bottom and an upper shoulder joined to a cap-receiving neck. The cross section of the pouch matches that of the bottle whereby the bottle is snugly received therein. The height of the pouch exceeds that of the bottle to define an upper section extending above the shoulder and having an open mouth whose lip is provided with a drawstring. When the drawstring is pulled and then tied to the neck of the bottle, the upper section of the pouch is caused to overlie the shoulder, the bottle then being fully encased, save for its neck.
Abstract:
A biofeedback system to train an exerciser while he carries out athletic activity in which his arm or feet members move rhythmically, the system translating this movement into an audible musical rhythm which makes it possible for the exerciser to being his activity into harmony with a musical rhythm conducive to optimal conditions of exercise. The system includes a compact electronic music synthesizer having a settable rhythm section, the output of the system being fed to a headset worn by the exerciser so that the music heard by the exerciser has a beat determined by the setting. The arm or feet members having sensors attached thereto which yield pulses whose rate is determined by the movement of these members, the pulses being applied to the rhythm section to control the beat setting of the music so that it is in synchronism with the movement of the members.
Abstract:
An aroma generator that is rendered operative only when a switch-controlled electric light bulb is in a predetermined state which is either "on" or "off," the generator then functioning to discharge an air current conveying an aromatic vapor which modifies the prevailing atmosphere. Included in the generator is a motor-driven fan that forces air through an air-permeable cartridge containing an aroma supply. The motor is connected to a battery through a signal-responsive electronic relay having time delay means such that when the relay is activated by a signal to turn on the fan, it is thereafter automatically deactivated after a predetermined time period. Applied to the relay is a binary signal derived from a light sensor adjacent the light bulb to intercept light rays therefrom, the signal being positive when the bulb is switched "on" and negative when it is switched "off." In one embodiment, the relay responds only to a positive signal, in which event the aroma generator is rendered operative for a predetermined period when the bulb is switched "on." In another embodiment, the relay responds only to a negative signal, in which event the aroma generator is rendered operative for a predetermined period when the bulb is switched"off."
Abstract:
A disposable applicator for a cosmetic cream which makes it possible to apply cream to the skin of the user without making finger contact with the skin, the applicator also serving to scrub and stimulate the skin surface. The applicator is constituted by a miniature sponge molded of open-pore, synthetic plastic, flexible foam material whose cells in the outer layer thereof are partially closed. Injected into the core of the sponge is a metered amount of cream which impregnates the internal pores of the sponge but is not exuded from the outer layer unless the applicator is squeezed by the user. In practice, each applicator may be packaged in a foil-type sealed envelope or a color-coded supply of applicators containing different creams may be housed in a jar.
Abstract:
An article of apparel such as sportswear whose outer surface exhibits a chromatic pattern related to thermal variations in the body of the wearer. The fabric of the garment is tailored to make direct contact with the skin of the wearer at different body sites. Integrated with the fabric or portions thereof are cholesteric liquid crystals. These are subjected to heat energy emanating from the skin of the wearer and therefore to variations in temperature that depend on the amount of body heat being dissipated in the area of contact. Because these liquid crystals have temperature-sensitive chromatic properties, the color pattern displayed by the garment undergoes changes in the course of wear.
Abstract:
An automobile cigarette lighter adapted to generate an aromatic vapor, the lighter being releasably retained within a dashboard socket having terminals therein connected to the battery of the vehicle. The lighter is constituted by a cylindrical shell having telescoped therein a spring-biased plunger. A disc-shaped heater element attached to the front end of the plunger is normally disposed at a position spaced from the socket terminals. A knob attached to the rear of the plunger projects beyond the rear end of the shell. When the knob is pressed in by a user, the plunger is advanced relative to the shell to cause the heater contact to engage the socket terminals and to be latched thereto by a bimetallic element, thereby activating the heater. When the heat generated thereby reaches a level causing the bimetallic element to bend, it releases the plunger which then returns to its normal inactive position. Formed in the plunger and the knob is a central duct extending from the heater element to an end opening in the knob. Receivable in the duct is a replaceable tubular cartridge having a heat-responsive, aroma-producing member therein which is activated by the heat to exude an aromatic vapor into the interior of the vehicle.
Abstract:
An aroma disc usable in conjunction with a conventional table lamp whose light bulb socket has a harp secured thereto to support a lampshade, the harp being provided with an upwardly projecting bolt on which is received the center collar of the lampshade spider. The aroma disc includes a round pad of porous material impregnated with a liquid fragrance, the pad being sandwiched between two round plies of reflective metal which are peripherally joined together and are provided with a center hole to accommodate the harp bolt whereby when the disc is installed on the lamp it is placed above the bulb. Concentric with the center hole on each ply of the disc is a circular array of openings which define ports to expose the pad. When the lamp is turned on, heated air currents arising from the bulb penetrate the ports and pass through the pad to volatilize the liquid fragrance, thereby generating an aromatic vapor which suffuses the room illuminated by the lamp.
Abstract:
A liquid soap dispenser whose container is formed of flexible plastic material and is provided with a flat rear wall and an externally-threaded nipple projecting from the front wall adjacent the base. The nipple has a cap screwed thereon which incorporates a pivoted spigot that when folded in seals the nipple and when folded out creates an outlet from which liquid soap is discharged when the front wall is pressed. Secured to the rear wall is a pad whose outer surface has a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive thereon. Also provided is a base sheet whose area is greater than that of the pad, the sheet having a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating on its underface, making it possible to adhere and conform the sheet to a selected wall site, after which the container pad is pressed against the central zone of the sheet to securely anchor the dispenser on the wall.

An aroma-generating lamp structure including an electric bulb mounted on a base and enclosed by a shell which is at least partially translucent, whereby the shell functions as a light shade, the shell being spring-mounted on the base and therefore being depressible. Socketed on the base is a bottle filled with a liquid scent, the bottle being coupled to a pump having an actuating head which cooperates with the shell so that when the shell is depressed, liquid is sprayed onto an absorbent pad disposed within the shell in the proximity of the bulb. Heat from the bulb vaporizes the liquid to generate an aroma which is exuded through vents in the shell.
