Abstract: A method and an apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals thereof are disclosed. The apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals comprises an input formatter to format at least one input stream to output DP (Data Pipe) data corresponding to each of a plurality of DPs, wherein the each of a plurality of DPs carries at least one service or at least one service component, an encoder to encode the DP data, a mapper to map the encoded DP data onto constellations, a time interleaver to time interleave the mapped DP data, a frame builder to build at least one signal frame including the time interleaved DP data, a modulator to modulate data in the built at least one signal frame by an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) scheme and a transmitter to transmit the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

The method for transmitting broadcast signals includes encoding DP data according to a code rate, wherein the encoding further includes LDPC encoding the DP data according to the code rate, bit interleaving the LDPC encoded DP data, mapping the bit interleaved DP data onto constellations, MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) encoding the mapped DP data, and time interleaving the MIMO encoded DP data; building at least one signal frame by arranging the encoded DP data; and modulating data in the built signal frame by OFDM method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data, wherein the step of modulating includes inserting CPs in the built signal frame based on a CP set which includes information about locations of CPs, wherein the CP set is defined based on FFT size.

Abstract: A broadcast signal receiver is provided that includes an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) demodulator configured to OFDM demodulate a received broadcast signal; a pilot detector configured to detect pilots included in the broadcast signal; a frame parser configured to parse a signal frame of the broadcast signal and to output Physical Layer Pipe (PLP) data, the signal frame comprising a bootstrap, a preamble, and a data part; and a decoder configured to perform Forward Error Correction (FEC) decoding on the PLP data. The bootstrap comprises preamble structure information about the preamble. The preamble comprises a plurality of preamble symbols. The preamble carries Layer 1 (L1) signaling data for the signal frame. A first preamble symbol has a minimum number of carriers (NoC) and the first preamble symbol comprises NoC-related information indicating an NoC for at least one remaining preamble symbol.

An SP pattern of the SPs is defined by Dx and Dy, the Dx being a separation of pilot bearing carriers in a frequency direction and the Dy being a number of symbols forming one scattered pilot sequence in a time direction. The amplitude of the SPs is determined from a SP boosting parameter and the SP pattern of the SPs.
