Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing content during reduced streaming quality. Data streaming is susceptible to degradation in quality that adversely affects the delivery of content. For example, sufficient reduction in streaming quality can cause video and audio portions of a data stream to become unsynchronized. The system compares currently streamed video frames to previously received video frames to identify suitable replacement video frames for the currently streamed video frames in the event that the currently streamed video frames are affected by the sufficiently reduced streaming quality.

Abstract: Systems and methods for addressing a corrupted segment in a media asset. The media guidance application determines that a segment of a media asset is corrupted. The media guidance application determines whether a retrieval period to retrieve an uncorrupted copy of the segment exceeds a threshold period. If the retrieval period does not exceed the threshold period, the media guidance application retrieves and generates for display the uncorrupted copy of the segment. If the retrieval period exceeds the threshold period, the media guidance application determines whether an importance level of the corrupted segment exceeds a threshold level. If the importance level exceeds the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display a summary for the corrupted segment. If the importance level does not exceed the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display the subsequent segment and the summary for the corrupted segment in an overlay.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for tagging images for placement in a graphical layout based on characteristics of depicted faces. The brightness of each face depicted is determined and, if the brightness of any face is below a threshold level of brightness, the image is tagged with a negative identifier indicating that the image cannot be dimmed. If the brightness of every face exceeds the threshold level of brightness, then the image is tagged with a positive identifier indicating that the image can be dimmed. The resolution of the image is also determined and, if the resolution currently affects any face, the image is tagged with a negative identifier indicating that the image cannot be blurred. If the resolution does not affect any face, and further blurring will not affect any image, then the image is tagged with a positive identifier indicating that the image can be blurred.

Abstract: The system generates a marker indicating a time interval sufficient to display condensed content. In response to identifying a program, the system retrieves information about the program. Based on this information, and optionally information about the user, the system selects a subset of segments of the program, forming a shorter version of the content having a reduced playback time. The system stores marker information corresponding to the reduced playback time, generates a marker for display, or both. The system may generate a grid of content identifiers for display, and also generate one or more makers for display to indicate the time required to display condensed content. One or more versions of condensed content may be generated, each having an associated marker. The system may store marker information for a plurality of programs, in response to user input or prior to a scheduled display time.

The system accesses a layout that defines a plurality of portions of the graphical layout and corresponding image parameters for each portion of the graphical layout. The system selects a first portion of the plurality of portions and retrieves the corresponding image parameters. If the image parameters indicate that the selected portion of the graphical layout is subject to a visual effect, the system selects an image having image parameters, such as the tags described above, indicating that the image can be placed in a portion of the graphical interface which will be subject to the particular visual effect. Otherwise, the system selects an image having image parameters that match the image parameters corresponding to the selected portion of the graphical interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for tagging images for placement in a graphical layout based on image characteristics. The overall brightness of an image is determined and, if the overall brightness is below a threshold level of brightness, the image is tagged with a negative identifier indicating that the image cannot be dimmed.
