Abstract: Disclosed herein are single-finger gestures for activating a trackpad mode on a touch-sensitive device with no force sensors. An example method includes: displaying a virtual keyboard on a touch-sensitive display with a spacebar key and other keys. Detecting a first extended contact over the virtual keyboard and, in accordance with a determination that the first extended contact is over any of the respective displayed representations of the other keys, interpreting the first extended contact as a keyboard input and activating a corresponding extended keyboard function. The method also includes: detecting a second extended contact over the virtual keyboard. The method further includes: in accordance with a determination that the second extended contact is over a respective displayed representation of the spacebar key, interpreting the second extended contact as a mode-switching input that causes the electronic device to operate at least a portion of the touch-sensitive display as a trackpad.

Abstract: A value of a display property of an affordance changes based a value of the same display property of a portion of content over which the affordance is displayed. The value of the display property of the affordance is constrained to vary within a second value range smaller than a first value range over which the value of the display property of the content is permitted to vary. If the change in appearance of the content meets range-switching criteria, the value of the display property of the affordance is changed within a third value range. The third value range is different from the second value range and is smaller than the first value range. If the change in appearance of the content does not meet the range-switching criteria, the value of the display property of the affordance is changed within the second value range.

Abstract: A method includes: displaying a first view of a first application; detecting a first portion of a first input; if the first portion of the first input meets application-switching criteria, concurrently displaying portions of the first application view and a second application view; while concurrently displaying the portions of the application views, detecting a second portion of the first input; if the second portion of the first input meets first-view display criteria (liftoff of contact detected in a first region), ceasing to display the portion of the second application view and displaying the first application view; and if the second portion of the first input meets multi-view display criteria (liftoff of contact detected in a second region), maintaining concurrent display of a portion of the first application view and a portion of the second application view on the display after detecting the liftoff of the contact.

Abstract: An electronic device provides, to a display, data to present a user interface that includes a first group of user interface objects and a second group of user interface objects. A current focus is on a first user interface object of the first group of user interface objects. The device receives an input that corresponds to a request to move the current focus to a user interface object in the second group of user interface objects; determines a projection of the first user interface object based on a direction of the input; identifies one or more user interface objects that overlap with the projection of the first user interface object in the direction on the display that corresponds to the direction of the input; and moves the current focus to a second user interface object of the one or more identified user input objects.

Abstract: An electronic device receives an incoming communication and determines that the device is in a first use context. In response to receiving the incoming communication, the device provides first feedback that includes a first ongoing audio output that corresponds to the first use context and a first ongoing tactile output with a first tactile output profile that corresponds to the first use context. While providing the first ongoing audio output and the first ongoing tactile output, the device detects that the electronic device is in a second use context, different from the first use context. In response to detecting that the electronic device is in the second use context, the device provides second feedback that includes a second ongoing tactile output that has a second tactile output profile that corresponds to the second use context.

Abstract: An electronic device displays content of a first content item, wherein the first content item is one of a sequence of content items. The device detects a user input that includes movement of a contact in a respective direction on the touch-sensitive surface. In response to detecting the user input: in accordance with a determination that the user input meets item-switching criteria, the device replaces display of the first content item with display of a second content item in the sequence of content items, wherein the item-switching criteria include a criterion that is met when a characteristic intensity of the contact is above a first intensity threshold; and, in accordance with a determination that the user input does not meet the item-switching criteria, the device navigates through the content of the first content item in accordance with the movement of the contact.
