    摘要: The present invention is directed to golf balls having a resilient inner core and outer core made of a material substantially free of fillers. The invention also encompasses golf balls wherein the inner and outer cores are not made of a thermoplastic material. The invention encompasses golf balls having an inner core, an outer core, an inner cover, and an outer cover wherein the inner core is encased by an outer core wherein the outer core has a volume greater than the inner core, inner cover, or outer cover and the inner core is made of a material substantially free of fillers. The volume relationship of the inner core (V12), outer core (V14), inner cover (V16), and outer cover (V18) is represented by the mathematical relationship: V14>⅗(V12+V16+V18), wherein V12≧V18≧V16. Also, the inner core has a specific gravity ρ12, the outer core has a specific gravity ρ14, the inner cover has a specific gravity ρ16, and the outer cover has a specific gravity ρ18, wherein the relationship between the specific gravities is expressed by the mathematical expression: ρ16≧ρ18≧ρ12≧ρ14.

Such layer can be the cover, a portion of the cover, an intermediate layer, a portion of the intermediate layer, or any layer in the golf ball. The fillers are selected to provide efficient increases in flexural modulus as a function of weight percentage of filler in the polymeric layer. A preferred filler is barium sulfate.

    摘要: A golf ball containing a layer, which comprises nanosheets of exfoliated graphite dispersed in a polymeric matrix, is provided. Exfoliated graphite is graphite that has been intercalated preferably by an oxidation process, where the atoms or molecules have been inserted into the inter-planar spacing between the layered planes of carbons, and expanded. The intercalated graphite is expanded or exfoliated preferably by brief exposure to high heat to expand the thickness of the graphite. The expanded or exfoliated graphite is then mixed with monomers and polymerized in situ to form a polymer with a network of nanosheets of the exfoliated graphite dispersed therein. The exfoliated graphite advantageously retains its nanostructure during the polymerization process. The resulting golf ball layer comprising such polymer with nanosheets of exfoliated graphite exhibits superior tensile strength, low permeability to gas and increased impact strength. A golf ball comprising a water vapor barrier layer, wherein the water vapor barrier layer comprises a foil of compressed exfoliated graphite layer, is also provided. The expanded or exfoliated graphite is compressed together into flexible thin sheets or foils. Such sheets may also be made with a polymeric binder.

The golf ball includes a high moment of inertia core assembly, which may comprise a low specific gravity core and an optional intermediate layer.
