    Abstract: In order to improve the selection of search space candidates for a downlink control channel, an apparatus determines a set of decoding candidates of a lower aggregation level for a downlink control channel based on a random selection from a plurality of potential decoding candidates, wherein the plurality of potential decoding candidates are defined from a second set of decoding candidates of a higher aggregation level. The apparatus then attempts to decode the downlink control channel based on determined sets of decoding candidates of different aggregation levels. The downlink control channel may comprise a PDCCH.

In some aspects, a user equipment determine that a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) communication, scheduled by an uplink grant, and a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) communication, corresponding to a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) communication scheduled by a downlink grant, are scheduled to overlap in one or more symbols; determine a threshold time based at least in part on an earliest scheduled starting time of the PUSCH communication or the PUCCH communication; selectively multiplex the PUSCH communication and the PUCCH communication based at least in part on whether the uplink grant, the downlink grant, and the PDSCH communication are received before the threshold time; and transmit the PUSCH communication, the PUCCH communication, or both the PUSCH communication and the PUCCH communication based at least in part on the selective multiplexing. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, configuration information for a two-step random access procedure. The UE may determine a frequency hopping space for transmitting a payload of a two-step random access channel of the two-step random access procedure. The UE may encode the payload into one or more codewords. The UE may map the one or more codewords to a plurality of resource units of the frequency hopping space. The UE may transmit the one or more codewords to the base station on the plurality of resource units of the frequency hopping space. Numerous other aspects are provided.
