Abstract: A gas spring is connected between a cabinet and a lift-top lid and releasably holds the lid upwardly in a fully open position with respect to the cabinet. Gravity automatically pivots a safety latch into latching relation with the cylinder of the gas spring as the lid approaches its fully open position. If the gas spring loses pressure, the latch operably engages the cylinder to mechanically hold the lid in its fully open position and to prevent the lid from falling toward its closed position.

Abstract: A vessel (1) for impregnating water with carbon dioxide is pressure-tight and has inlets (4, 5) for water and carbon dioxide. Within the vessel, a cooling surface (9) is provided, connected to an external refrigeration circuit. Abstract: A skylight, having a wing actuated by pneumatic springs, can be moved to an emergency opening position thereby substantially exposing the opening area of the skylight case. The skylight also acts as a residential ceiling or attic skylight which has, in the normal open position, a considerably smaller opening than in the emergency open position. A locking device is provided to restrict the long extension stroke of the piston rod of the pneumatic springs to a partial stroke. This partial stroke allows an opening which essentially corresponds to the standard opening of the wing in a residential skylight. The locking device, located on the cylinder of the pneumatic spring, includes a specially designed latch which, in order to effect partial stroke restriction of the piston rod, lockingly engages a stop located on the side of the case by means of a catch pin.

Abstract: A gas spring-assisted counterbalance system for a closure member, e.g., the rear door of a hatchback automobile, includes a mechanical spring connected in series with a gas spring. The system is arranged so that the gas spring reaches its fully retracted position before the door is fully closed, after which the door is closed against the force of the mechanical spring. Longitudinal vibrations or short movements of the system which otherwise would impart undesired short stroke cycles to the gas spring are absorbed by the mechanical spring, thereby enhancing the operating lifetime of the gas spring.

Abstract: A pair of spring-loaded oven door hinge mechanisms, mounted on a domestic range body and located at the lower corners of a counterbalancing oven door lock in a partially open position upon removal of the oven door to preclude accidental tripping of the non-counterbalanced hinge mechanisms. Each mechanism has a U-shaped channel 18, a counter-balance tension spring 19 fixed at one end by a screw 20 and attached at the other to a bracket 21 which slides in the channel 18, a hinge pin 27 fitting in a slot 31 and a support lever 23 pivotally fixed to the bracket 21 and the pin 33. A latch bar may enter the slots 38 and 39, thus locking the bracket 21 when disconnecting the door. The pivot connections at 33 and 27 are formed with open cam hooks so that the door is easily releasable. Sealing means 15 are provided around the frame 13.
