Abstract: A system and method for shaping and/or directing a spray stream includes electrostatically charging a spray stream by exposing fluid to be sprayed to an electrical field within a fluid sprayer to create an electrostatically charged spray stream, and then creating an electrical field between secondary electrodes externally to the fluid sprayer such that the electrostatically spray stream is shaped and/or redirected as it passes through the electrical field.

Abstract: A fluidized bed spray drying system for drying liquid into powder including an elongated drying chamber, a spray nozzle assembly at an upper end of the drying chamber and a powder collection chamber at a lower end of the drying chamber. A drying gas inlet is provided in the powder collection chamber and a drying gas outlet is provided at an upper end of the drying chamber. A plurality of cylindrical filter elements at the upper end of the drying chamber are in communication with the exhaust gas outlet for filtering drying gas borne powder from drying gas exiting the drying chamber.

Abstract: A particle measurement system and method of operation thereof are described. The system and method render a characteristic for a set of particles measured while passing through a measurement volume. The system includes a source that generates a particle-laden field containing the set of particles. The system further includes a sensor that generates a raw particle data corresponding to the set particles passing through the measurement volume of the particle measurement system, where the raw particle data comprises a set of raw particle records and each of one of the raw particle records includes a particle data content. A preconditioning stage carries out a preconditioning operation on the particle data content of the set of raw particle records to render a conditioned input data. A machine learning stage processes the conditioned input data to render an output characteristic parameter value for the set of particles.

Abstract: An electrostatic spray dryer for drying liquid into powder including an elongated cylindrical drying chamber having an electrostatic spray nozzle at an upper end and a powder collection vessel at a lower end. The powder collection vessel includes a removable and replaceable filter collections sock made of filter material for receiving and collecting dried powder from the drying chamber. For cleaning residual powder from an inside wall of the drying chamber, a scraper member is provided that is coupled by magnetic attraction to a manually removable driver on the external surface of the wall.

Abstract: A liquid slurry spraying system for spraying highly viscous slurries, including those with solids content, while maintaining the slurry in agitated condition for optimum discharge. The spraying system includes a nozzle body with a liquid flow passage having a liquid slurry inlet adjacent an upstream end and a spray tip at a downstream end, a valve needle supported in the liquid flow passage for reciprocating movement between spray tip closing and opening positions, and a bladed rotor having a plurality of vanes rotatably supported on the valve needle for rotation as an incident to the direction of liquid slurry from said liquid inlet when the valve needle is in an open position for agitating the liquid slurry for direction to the spray tip.

Abstract: A catalytic cracking system in which liquid hydrocarbon and bio-oil are directed into a reactor riser of a fluid catalytic cracking unit by separate feed spray nozzle assemblies. To protect liquid bio-oil directed through the liquid bio-oil feed nozzle assembly from high temperature degradation, an insulating layer is provided between a central bio-oil feed tube in a concentrically surrounding atomizing gas passageway. Cooling channels also may be provided in the spray tip of the bio-oil feed nozzle assembly.

Abstract: A hydroprocessing system having a processing vessel that discharges a high temperature effluent that must be cooled prior to collection in a reflux drum. One or more gas assisted spray nozzle are provided that utilize light atomizing gas having a density of 8-15 times less than air, such as hydrogen, which preferably is the processing or recycle gas of the system. The spray nozzles are designed for the efficient atomization and direction of cooling water into a micron sized droplet distribution utilizing the light atomizing gas for affecting higher mass and heat transfer from the effluent. The spray nozzles each include a unique atomizing gas and cooling liquid passageway systems, a downstream impingement post, and a plurality of discharge orifices which sequentially breakdown the liquid into micron sized droplets as low as 500 microns and less.

Abstract: A spray nozzle assembly having a nozzle body and a downstream air cap. The air cap has a central opening through which liquid is directed and a plurality of circumferentially spaced air passages oriented at a compound angle to the central flow axis of the air cap opening for directing pressurized air flow streams that interact with discharging liquid for atomizing the liquid while imparting a tangential direction to the atomized liquid for enhanced atomization and a swirling movement into a full cone spray pattern. The air cap may have an integrally formed spray tip or a separate spray tip may be associated with the nozzle body. The air cap may be formed with a downstream conical recess into which liquid and air streams are directed, or alternatively, be designed for atomizing liquid internally within the air cap.

Abstract: An electrolyzing system is provided for producing higher quantities of electrolyzed waters within prescribed pH ranges for optimum usage and which can be operated for producing greater quantities of alkaline electrolyzed water than acidic electrolyzed water consistent with a users requirements. The system includes an electrolytic cartridge having cathode and anode cells each comprising a pair of electrodes disposed in laterally spaced coplanar relation to each other, with a respective ion permeable membrane in spaced relation to the pairs of electrodes. The cells are separated with a common separator plate that maintains the ion permeable membranes in parallel relation with the respective electrodes and which facilitates the communication of brine solution from a brine bath to both cells. The cells further can be operate with staggered input currents and the redirection of electrolyzed water between the cells for optimum control of pH levels of the resulting products.

Abstract: An electrostatic spray drying system includes an electrostatic spray nozzle having a spray tip assembly arranged to discharge a supply of fluid into a drying chamber. The electrostatic spray nozzle is responsive to a duty cycle signal that determines periods at which the electrostatic spray nozzle is open to inject the fluid. A controller is programmed to activate a pulse width modulation (PWM) mode of operation for the electrostatic spray assembly, initiate a first timer, provide a first duty cycle signal to the electrostatic spray nozzle at a first PWM activation frequency while the first timer has not reached a first pulse duration, initiate a second timer when the first timer has reached the first pulse duration, and provide a second duty cycle signal to the electrostatic spray nozzle at a second PWM activation frequency while the second timer has not reached a second pulse duration.
