The present invention includes a blank and container formed of cellulose-based materials configured to form a reusable and collapsible container. The container in the partially assembled, knock-down position lies substantially flat and is capable of being stacked and shipped. Arrival at a job site or at a time requiring the use of the container, the partially assembled knock-down container may be easily converted into a fully erect container ready for use as intended. Once loaded with product, the first and second top panels may be folded down to enclose the container. The container positions the relief scores primarily in the side panels with only a single relief score in the bottom panel. This configuration allows the bottom panel to distend while the container is in the collapsed state while not adversely affecting overall container strength.

A cover panel improvement is described for a container having a bottom panel, side walls, end walls, and an open top. The improvement includes first and second cover panels connected to the side walls. Each cover panel includes side tabs that extend outwardly and fold down onto the end walls of the container. Portions of the cover panel overlap, as do portions of the side tabs. Various embodiments are provided regarding the size, shape, and placement of heavy and zero crush areas in the side tabs and cover panels. The heavy crush areas are used to reduce the overall thickness of the side tabs where overlapped. Openings may be used along the hinge line between the side tabs to help in properly forming the respective hinge line, e.g., by making the side tab more flexible along its fold line. Likewise, a spine may be used to help maintain tab stiffness.

Second, intermediate end panels sized in width to extend approximately half way across the first end panel in the assembled container are hingedly attached to the opposite ends of each side panel. Each intermediate end panel has a cutout complementary to the hand-hold slot in the first end panel and includes an extension hingedly attached thereto that folds back upon the intermediate end panel to form the third, innermost end panel. The extension includes a plurality of fold lines in its outer portion adjacent the common hinge between each second end panel and its respective extension, with none of the fold lines being collinear with the hinge. Accordingly, when the extension is folded back upon the second end panel, portions of extension defined by the fold lines bow-out to form an enclosure behind the hand-hold slot in the second end panel. Upon final assembly of the container, the second end panels and their extension are folded so that both enclosures at each end of the blank defined by the divergent fold lines register with the hand-hold slots of the first end panel to substantially seal the hand-holds. In accordance with the present invention, a single sheet of foldable material is cut and scored to define a container blank. The blank includes a variety of panels, flaps and tabs, that when erected, form a container that includes an interior volume having gussets in the corners. The gusseted corners provide a contact surface for product stability within the container. Likewise, the gussets provide overall stability and increased strength to the container. The container includes top panels that close the container.

The blank is configured to form a container that includes corners having multiple thicknesses. The single adhesion/corner arrangement provides a multi-wall corner arrangement that is strong, yet has flexible applications. The single adhesive/corner adds vertical stacking strength and lateral stability between the panels.
