Abstract:
A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.

Abstract:
A system and method for gathering data regarding receivers of multicast content is provided. A spanning tree is used to connect a content producer, such as a pay-per-view broadcaster, to one or more receivers over a computer network, such as the Internet. Clients that wish to join a multicast group to which content is sent join the multicast group at the client's designated multicast router. The router sends information regarding the request, such as a tally of the number of clients that have joined the group, through intermediate routers to an endpoint router as identified by the spanning tree. The content producer is able to use the information, such as the tally and demographic information, to analyze the group of receivers. In a pay-per-view setting, the tally can further be compared to the number of subscribers to determine whether illicit receivers have joined the group, whereupon appropriate action is taken.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method, system, and program for saving content of electronic objects displayed in a computer viewer program. Content of an object is presented in an interface generated by the viewer program. User selection of a command is received with respect to the presented object content. In response to the user selection of the command, a determination is made of a repository file. The content of the selected object is appended to the determined repository file. The repository file is capable of including content from multiple objects appended to the repository file in response to previous user selections of the command.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a system, method, and program for displaying pages in a viewer program on a computer display monitor. The viewer program displays an application window. The viewer program downloads a first and second pages from one of multiple servers over a network and then automatically concurrently displays the first page in a first window pane and the second page in a second window pane in the application window according to predefined settings specifying how pages are to be displayed in the first and second panes. The viewer program then downloads a third page from one of multiple servers over the network and automatically concurrently displays the third page in one of the first and second panes and one of the first and second pages in the other pane according to the predefined settings. A fourth page is then downloaded from one of multiple servers over the network and the viewer program then automatically concurrently displays the third and fourth pages in the first and second panes according to the predefined settings.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for filtering content based on the accessibility of the content to a user are provided. The apparatus and methods make use of an evaluation tool that evaluates requested content for accessibility to users having special needs, such as handicapped or disabled users. The results of the evaluation are then compared to a user's designation of a required accessibility level to determine if the content is accessible to the user. If the results of the evaluation indicate that the content meets the user's required accessibility level, the content is provided to the user. If the evaluation indicates that the content does not meet the user's required accessibility level, the content is not provided to the user or a not accessible indicator is appended to the content. In a further embodiment, the content may be modified to make the content accessible to the user.
Abstract:
Provided is a method, system, and program for transferring data from a first server to a second server through a client computer over a network. The client performs downloading and displaying content in a first page from the first server and downloading and displaying content in a second page from the second server including transfer data to communicate to the first server. The client computer displays the transfer data with the content from the first page and communicates the transfer data to the first server.
Abstract:
A mechanism is provided for augmenting the mail header of a message with a list of digital signatures representing the chain of contributors to the message. The augmented header may also encode the actual contributions corresponding to each digital signature. The list is appended every time a message is forwarded. If a message has a portion with no corresponding digital signature or if one or more of the digital signatures is not trusted, the user may handle the message accordingly. Furthermore, a mail server or client may discard a message if the number of digital signatures exceeds a threshold to filter out unwanted messages, such as e-mail chain letters.
Abstract:
A system and method for a third party logging server to keep track of sales by online merchants of copyrighted works. Providers of copyrighted works, such as publishers and authors, register with the third party logging server and acquire an authentication mechanism to use the server, such as a username and password. The providers upload digital works and royalties corresponding to the works to the third party logging proxy server. Online merchants register with the third party logging proxy server and also acquire an authentication mechanism to use the server. The merchant downloads works and royalty rates to the merchant's computer for online sales. The merchant also downloads software that informs the third party logging proxy server whenever the merchant makes a sale. The server keeps track of the sale. The server collects royalty payments from merchants. The server also calculates and sends providers their royalty payments.
Abstract:
Several different embodiments of an electronic document delivery system are described including a client machine (e.g., a palmtop/handheld computer or wireless communication device) coupled to a transcoder proxy. One embodiment of the system allows a client machine with limited resources to support JAVASCRIPT. The transcoder proxy receives an electronic document in a first digital format (e.g., HTML or XML). A JAVASCRIPT event may be associated with an element of the document including JAVASCRIPT code executed in response to the JAVASCRIPT event. The transcoder proxy assigns a unique identifier to the element, and forms a model of a logical structure of the document (e.g., a document object model or DOM). The transcoder proxy uses the model to produce an “original” script including a portion of the document expressed in a second digital format (e.g., a scripting language), and provides the original script to the client machine. The client machine uses the original script to display/present the document portion. The client machine associates the JAVASCRIPT event with the element identifier, generates the JAVASCRIPT event in response to user input, and provides JAVASCRIPT event information and the associated identifier to the transcoder proxy. The transcoder proxy accesses the element within the model using the identifier, executes the JAVASCRIPT code producing a result, uses the model and the result to produce a “modification” script, and provides the modification script to the client machine. The client machine uses the modification script to modify the displayed/presented portion of the document.
