Abstract: An input knob for use with a touch screen device includes stationary and moveable members. The stationary member adheres to a touch screen of the device. The moveable member moves relative to the stationary member, and is secured to the surface via the stationary member. The moveable member produces touch events on the touch surface as bits of data in response to movement of the moveable member. The moveable member may include a rotary encoder. The stationary member may include conductive pads in contact with the surface and in selective contact with a conductive mass of the moveable member. The moveable member may be ring-shaped, removeable and repositionable with respect to the surface, and/or constructed of or coated by dielectric materials. The knob may lack a direct hardwired electrical connection to or through the surface. A display system includes the touch screen device and knob.

The method also includes determining an automated driving route for the vehicle from a predetermined position to a predetermined destination based on the attributes relating to the automated driving mode of the vehicle.

At least one microcontroller in communication with the display unit includes a first processing unit configured to receive a dimming level value and a second processing unit. The second processing unit evaluates the dimming level value against a threshold value and adjusts one or more properties of the display unit in response to the measured values.

Abstract: A system and method for highly automated driving of a vehicle to detect and classify pedestrians and traffic signs and other vehicles are provided. The system includes an on-vehicle camera for receiving image data. A location determining module is also on the vehicle to determine a location of the vehicle and a vehicle memory unit on the vehicle storing at least one particularized convolutional neural networks to process the image data. A vehicle processor is communicatively coupled to the vehicle memory unit and the camera and the location determining module and is configured to collect vehicle location data with the location determining module. The vehicle processor is also configured to process the image data using the at least one particularized convolutional neural network based the vehicle location data and environmental conditions around the vehicle to detect and classify pedestrians and traffic signs and other vehicles.

Abstract: A system includes a switch-mode power supply for drawing low and constant current from a power source. The switch-mode power supply may charge an energy storage element with low and constant current. In a normal condition, a current driver may cause the illuminator to emit electromagnetic radiation as a plurality of flashes. In the normal condition, the system may include an average power that is less than or equal to a threshold value associated with the illuminator. In a fault condition, the illuminator may continuously emit electromagnetic radiation, at low current. In the fault condition, the switch-mode power supply may supply low and constant current to the illuminator. Similarly, in the fault condition, the system may include an average power that is less than or equal to a threshold value associated with the illuminator.

Abstract: A head up display may include a combiner having a semi-transparent mirror to reflect light projected by a head up display light source. A dimmable element may be disposed adjacent to the combiner and opposite the semi-transparent mirror. The dimmable element may include a control system configured to reduce the transmission of light reflected by the combiner according to a plurality of light transmission reduction steps and may include a feedback control system configured to adjust the transmission of light through the dimmable element based on at least a light sensor and a light source measuring light transmission through the dimmable element.

Abstract: A user interface and a method for the inputting and outputting of information in the vehicle includes an image generation unit which generates a projected image. A means for gesture recognition is arranged as a means for detecting an input, and that a means for view detection and following is arranged such that the recognition of the viewing direction and an association of the viewing direction of the driver with an area in the vehicle is carried out. Information about this area is generated in the viewing direction in the form of a projected image and is displayed floating over the area. Recognition of gestures of the driver is carried out. Upon a coincidence of a position of a hand of the driver, detected by the gesture recognition, with the projected image or a component of the projected image, a signal is generated by the central control unit and outputted.

Abstract: Audio and video systems for checking safety sounds and telltales are provided. The audio system includes a digital signal processor with a plurality of safety sounds and a plurality of signatures corresponding thereto. A head unit controller includes a signature and volume checker to identify an expected signature of the one of the safety sounds. The digital signal processor outputs a mixed audio stream and includes a lower bit inserter to replace lower bits of the mixed audio stream with replacement lower bits based on the signature and output a modified audio stream. A lower bit extractor separates and outputs the replacement lower bits and a remainder of the modified audio stream. An audio amplifier unit receives and outputs the remainder of the modified audio stream. The head unit controller rebuilds the signature, determines whether the signature matches the expected signature, and sends an acknowledgment accordingly.
