    摘要: A fetal heart monitoring system preferably comprising a backing plate having a generally concave front surface and a generally convex back surface, and at least one sensor element attached to the concave front surface for acquiring acoustic fetal heart signals produced by a fetus within a body. The sensor element has a shape that conforms to the generally concave back surface of the backing plate. In one embodiment, the at least one sensor element comprises an inner sensor, and a plurality of outer sensors surrounding the inner sensor. The fetal heart monitoring system can further comprise a web belt, and a web belt guide movably attached to the web belt. The web belt guide being is to the convex back surface of the backing plate.

    摘要: Improvements in instrumentation suitable for measuring aircraft noise and sonic booms. A converter produces an electric current proportional to the sound pressure level at a condenser microphone. The electric current is transmitted over a cable and amplified by a zero drive amplifier. The converter consists of a local oscillator, a dual-gate field-effect transistor (FET) mixer and a voltage regulator/impedance translator. The local oscillator generates a carrier voltage that is applied to one of the gates of the FET mixer. The FET mixer mixes the microphone signal with the carrier to produce an electrical current at the frequency of vibration of the microphone diaphragm. The voltage regulator/impedance translator regulates the voltage of the local oscillator and mixer stages, eliminates the carrier at the output and provides a low output impedance at the cable terminals. The improvements include automatic tuning compensation against changes in static microphone capacitance and means for providing a remote electrical calibration capability.

    摘要: The present invention is an extremely low frequency (ELF) microphone and acoustic measurement system capable of infrasound detection in a portable and easily deployable form factor. In one embodiment of the invention, an extremely low frequency electret microphone comprises a membrane, a backplate, and a backchamber. The backchamber is sealed to allow substantially no air exchange between the backchamber and outside the microphone. Compliance of the membrane may be less than ambient air compliance. The backplate may define a plurality of holes and a slot may be defined between an outer diameter of the backplate and an inner wall of the microphone. The locations and sizes of the holes, the size of the slot, and the volume of the backchamber may be selected such that membrane motion is substantially critically damped.

    摘要: A fetal heart monitoring system and method for detecting and processing acoustic fetal heart signals transmitted by different signal transmission modes. One signal transmission mode, the direct-contact mode, occurs in a first frequency band when the fetus is in direct contact with the maternal abdominal wall. Another signal transmission mode, the fluid propagation mode, occurs in a second frequency band when the fetus is in a recessed position with no direct contact with the maternal abdominal wall. The second frequency band is relatively higher than the first frequency band. The fetal heart monitoring system and method detect and process acoustic fetal heart signals that are in the first frequency band and in the second frequency band.

Thus, thermal noise in a microphone mounted within the inner vessel is accurately measured, especially at low thermal noise levels and at low frequencies.

    摘要: An ultrasonic depth gauge 20 for liquids under high pressure is comprised of a transducer assembly 21 and a supporting electronics unit 22. The transducer assembly is mounted into the bottom wall of a storage vessel 12 with its resonating surface directly exposed to the highly pressurized liquid 13 in the vessel. The transducer assembly consists of a conventional transducer element 38 rigidly bonded to the inside wall of a bored out conventional high-pressure plug 30 thereby forming a composite resonator 50. The element and the plug wall resonate as one upon electrical excitation of the element while the transducer element is completely shielded from any exposure to the liquid under high pressure. The composite resonator sends a vibration up to the surface of the liquid where it is reflected back to the composite resonator. The supporting electronics unit measures the vibration round-trip transit time which is proportional to the depth 15 of the liquid.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for measuring the acoustic impedance of a surface in which the surface is used to enclose one end of the chamber of a Helmholz resonator. Acoustic waves are generated in the neck of the resonator by a piston driven by a variable speed motor through a cam assembly. The acoustic waves are measured in the chamber and the frequency of the generated acoustic waves is measured by an optical device. These measurements are used to compute the compliance and conductance of the chamber and surface combined. The same procedure is followed with a calibration plate having infinite acoustic impedance enclosing the chamber of the resonator to compute the compliance and conductance of the chamber alone. Then by subtracting, the compliance and conductance for the surface is obtained.

    摘要: Apparatus for measuring pressure fluctuations in air or other gases in an area of elevated temperature. A condenser microphone is located in the area of elevated temperature and electronics for processing changes in the microphone capacitance is located outside the area and connected to the microphone by means of a high-temperature cable assembly. The microphone includes apparatus for decreasing the undesirable change in microphone sensitivity at high temperatures. The high-temperature cable assembly operates as a half-wavelength transmission line in an AM carrier system and maintains a large temperature gradient between the two ends of the cable assembly. The processing electronics utilizes a voltage controlled oscillator for automatic tuning thereby increasing the sensitivity of the measuring apparatus.
