摘要: A device for transmitting sound waves between a signal source and a user's ears, wherein the sound waves bypass the air. The invention generally comprises a signal source configured to produce signals representative of sound, and a sound-transmitting element operatively associated with the signal source to which the signal source can transmit such signals for transmission through the sound-transmitting element to a user's mouth, from which the signals are conducted by teeth and bones to the user's ears to be perceived as sound. The signal source generally comprises an source that may produce sound waves directly or indirectly with the assistance of a transducer. The sound-transmitting element generally comprises any element that may transmit signals representative of sound upon contact with a user's mouth and may include edible substances, eating utensils, and writing implements, among others. The device further may comprise an independent-selective-activity structure, a hand-manipulable structure, or an activity means that permits a user to practice a volitional function independent of sound transmission. The invention provides for the construction of a nearly limitless number of useful and novel devices.

摘要: A method of monitoring brushing of a tooth and gum surface includes sensing a brushing relative to the tooth surface during a brushing session and generating feedback in response to the brushing. In one embodiment, feedback is generated when a user, such as a child, starts brushing. In another embodiment, feedback is generated when the brushing technique deviates from a correct brushing technique, such as the Bass Technique. When a user uses a correct brushing technique, the bristles on the brush head of a tooth brush vibrate. When the user uses an incorrect brushing technique, the vibrations stop, alerting the user that her technique is incorrect. The user can be alerted about improper brushing techniques in other ways, such as by generating audible sounds such as chirps, interrupting audio signals such as music, generating flashing lights, or the like. Preferably, a user's brushing technique can be tracked for later evaluation.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention embody motion detection via a camera for mobile platform video gaming and exercise, in either integrated or separately attachable components. The system includes an oral care device. The oral care device, such as a toothbrush, includes one or more targets. Each target designates a specific area of the toothbrush, such as back side, a front side, a brush head or a brush end. A target can be a color or a tag, and can be removably coupled or integrally formed with the toothbrush. The system also includes an application configured to detect the targets, to determine that a property of any of the targets has changed. Based on at least the determination, the application is configured to monitor progress of brushing and to control an element in the application.

摘要: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for producing images for stereoscopic, three-dimensional viewing generated with existing mobile graphical devices, such as cameras, video recorders, PDAs, telephones, and other devices, such as the iPhone™. Two reflectors, which may be mirrors or prisms, are positioned to separate the field of view of a camera lens on the mobile graphical device into a direct field of view and an offset field of view and to record and display the separated fields in a two-paned format on the mobile graphical device. Eye lenses are used to separately view the split images. An integrated housing and cradle receive the mobile graphical device and are coupled to the reflectors and the eye lenses. An area of each pane may be provided to display control icons for three-dimensional viewing, and a control area may be provided out of view on a touch screen for user control.

摘要: A camera (10) having a light source (20) that produces a beam of light (22) extending in the direction the camera (10) is aimed. A light pattern produced by reflection of the beam of light (22) by an object informs the user where the camera (10) is aimed. Actuation of a shutter trigger (16) deactivates the light source (20) and then actuates a shutter mechanism in the camera (10), with the camera (10) at this time being properly aimed. The shutter trigger (16) may also actuate an autofocus system (230).

摘要: This invention comprises a control interface between a machine and a physical object. The invention includes an infrared transmitter for transmitting a first infrared signal to an object. Upon striking the object, the infrared signal is reflected forming a reflected infrared signal. An infrared receiver receives the reflected signal from the object and the reflected signal is transformed into a second signal which may be either an analogue type or a yes/no threshold type, representative of a distance between the object and the receiver. The second signal is coupled to the machine. The apparatus is a cordless touch-free controller interface for use with a machine. The present invention is ideally suited for controlling cursor position for use with computers and also with video games.

摘要: The invention includes a method used with a camera that is aimed toward a field of view by a light beam that produces a light pattern indentifying at least a part of the field of view. The method photographs the field of view without photographing the light pattern produced by the light beam. The method includes the steps of receiving light, producing signals representative of the received light, intermittently reading the signals to create a video photograph, where the intermittent reading results in intermissions between readings, recognizing the intermission and causing the light beam to produce the light pattern during intermissions only. The beam produces a light pattern on an object within or near the camera's field of view, thereby identifying at least a part of the field of view. The radiant energy source is often a laser and the radiant energy beam is often a laser beam. A detection mechanism detects the intermissions and produces a signal that causes the radiant energy source to project the radiant energy beam. The detection mechanism is typically an electrical circuit including a retriggerable multivibrator or other functionally similar component. In several other embodiments, a radiant energy source produces a constant beam of radiant energy. In one embodiment, a filtering mechanism detects and filters the radiant energy beam before it impinges on a sensor within the camera. In another embodiment, a filtering mechanism detects and filters the energy beam after it impinges on the camera's sensor, but before the camera produces a visual image of the field of view. In another embodiment using a pulsed beam, a modulation signature of the energy beam is decoded and suppressed before reaching the visual image created by the camera.
