Abstract:
Refiner plate elements for a conical mechanical refiner include: a rotor plate element including at least one rotor plate segment having a feedstock inlet opening disposed at a first end of the rotor plate segment; and a rotor plate segment refining area disposed between the feedstock inlet opening and a second end of the rotor plate segment. The refiner plate elements may further include: a stator plate element including at least one stator plate segment having a stator plate segment refining area; and first and second attaching rails configured to couple to the stator plate segment to a stator support frame of the conical mechanical refiner. A separation between the first attaching rail and the second attaching rail that is not covered by the stator plate segment is configured to form a feedstock outlet opening.
Abstract:
A rotor cap assembly has been conceived using multiple wedge-shaped rotor cap segments, in which the cap segments are disposed on a cap segment retainer and in which the cap segment retainer pilots the multiple rotor cap segments at a diameter intermediate the cap segments' outer diameter and the cap segments' middle diameter. By piloting multiple rotor cap segments with retaining means on the cap segment retainer and positioning means on the multiple cap segments, the rotor cap segments and cap segment retainer assembly may be fixed to a plate holder or directly to a rotor disc of a refiner without substantially altering either the plate holder or the rotor disc.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes a refiner plate segment with one or more continuous, generally spiraling transition zones. A transition zone spans from an area near the inner portion of the plate, near the breaker bar area, and extends toward an area near the periphery of the plate at an angle. A tangent line to the transition zone intersecting a radial line forms this angle. The radial line is formed by a line perpendicular to the outer periphery passing through the center point of the center of plate rotation.
Abstract:
A refining system and process using a specially designed stator refiner plate that includes a major refining surface having a series of bars and grooves, the bars include a leading surface having an irregular surface hosting a series of protrusions extending along the bar, and a trailing surface that is relatively smooth compared to the leading surface that lacks an irregular surface.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to an apparatus for a counter-rotating mechanical refiner configured to mitigate the problems of feeding variations, load variations, high energy consumption due to poor feeding efficiency, low pulp quality, and reduced throughput capacity by positioning a flinger proximate to a rotor gap side of a first rotor, wherein the first rotor further comprises an inlet extending through the first rotor, such that a portion of the operational flinger deflects feed material from the inlet into the refiner gap while rotating in the direction of the first rotor.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a refiner plate segment, mechanical refiners, and methods to manufacture a refiner plate segment having one or more water channels disposed in a variable substrate profile along the radial length of a refiner plate segment base and disposed between the refiner plate segment inlet and the primary refining section, wherein the variable substrate profile comprises an undulating curve configured to complement a second undulating curve on an opposing refiner plate, and wherein dimensions of the one or more water channels are sufficiently narrow to prevent wood chips from entering the water channels and sufficiently wide to provide a bypass path for the free water.
Abstract:
A set of plate segments for refining comminuted cellulosic material including: a first plate segment and a second plate segment, wherein the first plate segment and the second plate segment each have a refining side configured to oppose the refining side on the other segment, and each of said refining sides includes a refining zone having bars and grooves between adjacent ones of the bars, wherein distance between the grooves in the first plate segment and the grooves in the second plate segment is substantially constant along an arc through the refining zone while the set is mounted to discs in a refiner.
Abstract:
An assembly of opposing discs or cones for a disperser where each disc or cone has mounted to it a plate or an array of plate segments with a front surface on each plate or array of plate segments and each surface has a series of bars, grooves and dams. The bars are in rows, with the rows separated by annular dams at substantially fixed radial locations, and the grooves are adjacent the bars in the rows so that the grooves form a serpentine passage extending radially between the opposing plates or array of plate segments on the opposing discs or cones. The opposing plate or array of plate segments are arranged such that the annular dams on one plate or array of plate segments face roughly the middle of the row of bars on the opposing plate or array of plate segments.
Abstract:
The problem of increased energy usage in refiners over the working life of a refining assembly is mitigated by the use of a refiner plate segment having a refiner side and a back side distally disposed from the refiner side, refiner bars engaged to a substrate of the refiner side, wherein the refiner bars have a refiner bar height, and wherein adjacent refiner bars and the substrate define grooves between the adjacent bars, and protrusions disposed in the grooves, wherein the protrusions have a protrusion height, wherein the protrusion height is 30% or less of the refiner bar height.
