Abstract: An electronic device: detects an input on a respective button. Tactile outputs are generated to indicate that the respective button has been activated in place of a mechanical switch that detects activation of the respective button when the respective button is mechanically compressed. In response to detecting the input on the respective button: in accordance with a determination that the input meets activation criteria, the electronic device provides a first tactile output with a first tactile output pattern that includes: between 0.5 and 4 cycles of an oscillation of one or more tactile output generators relative to corresponding neutral positions of the one or more tactile output generators. The oscillation of the one or more tactile output generators occurs at a frequency between 80 Hz and 400 Hz. In accordance with a determination that the input does not meet the activation criteria, the electronic device forgoes providing the first tactile output.

Abstract: An electronic device displaying a user interface on a display. While displaying the user interface on the display and while one or more tactile output generators of the electronic device are in a low-power state, the electronic device detects a first user interaction via the touch-sensitive surface. In response to detecting the first user interaction, the electronic device sets the one or more tactile output generators to a low-latency state. After setting the one or more tactile output generators to the low-latency state, the electronic device detects a second user interaction that is part of a same sequence of user interactions as the first user interaction. In response to detecting the second user interaction, the electronic device generates a tactile output that corresponds to the second user interaction.

Abstract: A finger-mounted device may include finger-mounted units. The finger-mounted units may each have a body that serves as a support structure for components such as force sensors, accelerometers, and other sensors and for haptic output devices. The body may have sidewall portions coupled by a portion that rests adjacent to a user's fingernail. The body may be formed from deformable material such as metal or may be formed from adjustable structures such as sliding body portions that are coupled to each other using magnetic attraction, springs, or other structures. The body of each finger-mounted unit may have a U-shaped cross-sectional profile that leaves the finger pad of each finger exposed when the body is coupled to a fingertip of a user's finger. Control circuitry may gather finger press input, lateral finger movement input, and finger tap input using the sensors and may provide haptic output using the haptic output device.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and tactile output generator(s) displays a user interface including a moveable component representing a plurality of selectable options. The device detects a scroll input directed to the moveable component including movement of a contact followed by a lift-off. In response to detecting the scroll input: the device moves the moveable component through moving a first selectable option and a second selectable option, where the movement of the moveable component gradually slows down after the lift-off of the contact. As the first moveable component moves through the first selectable option with a speed: the device generates a tactile output and an audio output. As the moveable component moves through the second selectable option with a slower speed: the device generates a different tactile output in a first property but is the same in a second property and generates a different audio output.

Abstract: An electronic device detects, on a touch-sensitive surface, a user input directed to a user interface element associated with a respective operation, for example in a user interface for a locked mode of operation of the device. A first portion of the user input includes an increase in intensity of the contact followed by a second portion of the user input that includes a decrease in intensity of the contact. In response to the user input, the device displays a transformation of the user interface element, wherein a degree of the transformation is determined based on an intensity of the user input. If the user input satisfies feed-forward criteria, including a requirement that a characteristic intensity of the contact increase above a feed-forward intensity threshold, the device generates a first tactile output without performing the respective operation. Otherwise, the device generates a second tactile output and performs the respective operation.

Abstract: A system may include finger devices. A touch sensor may be mounted in a finger device housing to gather input from an external object as the object moves along an exterior surface of the housing. The touch sensor may include capacitive sensor electrodes. Sensors such as force sensors, ultrasonic sensors, inertial measurement units, optical sensors, and other components may be used in gathering finger input from a user. Finger input from a user may be used to manipulate virtual objects in a mixed reality or virtual reality environment while a haptic output device in a finger device provides associated haptic output. A user may interact with real-world objects while computer-generated content is overlaid over some or all of the objects. Object rotations and other movements may be converted into input for a mixed reality or virtual reality system using force measurements or other sensors measurements made with the finger devices.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a camera user interface for capturing media. While displaying the camera user interface, the device detects activation of a capture affordance. If the activation of the capture affordance is detected while the camera user interface is in a first media capture mode (e.g., still picture capture mode), the device captures media of a first type, and generates a first tactile output. If the activation of the capture affordance is detected while the camera user interface is in a second media capture mode (e.g., a video capture mode or a live picture capture mode), capturing media of the second type, and forgoing generating the first tactile output in response to activation of the capture affordance.

Abstract: An electronic device receives, at an application-independent module, user interface information from an application. The user interface information corresponds to one or more displayed user interface elements with one or more dimensions defined by an application-specific module of the application. The electronic device receives an input directed toward one or more of the displayed user interface elements, and, at the application-independent module, determines one or more tactile outputs to be generated based on a magnitude of the input and the one or more dimensions defined by the applications-specific module. Using the one or more tactile output generators, the electronic device generates the determined one or more tactile outputs.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a display and an input region separate from the display. The device detects a first portion of a first input on the input region. In response to detecting the first portion of the first input: if the first portion of the first input meets first criteria that do not require a characteristic intensity of the first input to increase above a first intensity threshold in order to be met, the device displays a precursor object of a user interface object that includes one or more selectable options. While displaying the precursor object, a second portion of the first input is detected on the input region, wherein an intensity of the first input increases above the first intensity threshold. In response to detecting the increase in intensity, the device reveals the user interface object by an amount that varies with a current intensity of the first input.
