An electronic timepiece, including: a receiver which receives broadcast radio waves including time information; a communicator which carries out wireless communication by establishing communication connection with an external device which is set; a processor; and an operation receiving unit which receives an input operation via an operating member, wherein in a case where a predetermined input operation corresponding to a command for obtaining information regarding a present time is received via a predetermined operating member, the processor selects a first information obtaining operation by which the information is obtained from the external device which is set via the communicator or a second information obtaining operation by which the information is obtained based on the broadcast radio waves received by the receiver according to whether a setting regarding the external device exists.

A radio wave receiver, that receives satellite waves, includes a GPS reception processing unit configured to receive signals from a plurality of positioning satellites, acquire data necessary for positioning from the received signals, calculate a current location of the radio wave receiver, save a failure history related to acquisition of the data necessary for positioning with respect to each of the received signals, determine a reception condition of each of the received signals in accordance with the failure history, and suspend acquisition of the data necessary for positioning with respect to a signal having the reception condition determined to be at least equal to a predetermined reference level, the signal being among the signals from the plurality of positioning satellites.

A timer includes: a case body made of synthetic resin; an outer case made of synthetic resin, located above the case body and extending to a portion of an upper face of a watch glass; a reinforcement member made of metal embedded in the case body to prevent deformation of the case body when the watch glass is fit thereto and ensure airtightness; and an antenna arranged inside the case body and beneath the reinforcement member, wherein the reinforcement member is embedded in the case body in no electrical continuity with a ground potential.

A portable display device includes: an acceleration sensor; an outputting section outputting a detection signal when a measurement value changes across a reference value; a calculating section calculating a duration time in which the measurement value exceeds the reference value; a judging section judging whether the movement state is due to running based on an occurrence frequency of the movement state and the duration time; a setting section setting a running state when the movement state is due to the running; a calculating section calculating a time interval between the movement states; a continuous tap judging section judging whether the movement states are due to continuous tap operations according to a judgment condition based on the duration time and time interval; and a setting range changing section setting a range of the judgment condition in the running state to be broader than that in a non-running state.

A portable electronic device includes: a wireless communication unit that transmits and receives data to and from an external device via near field communication; a measuring unit that measures a physical quantity for determining a predetermined kinetic state of the portable electronic device; an announcement unit that issues a predetermined announcement; an announcement setting unit that makes a setting for whether to permit the announcement and/or for an announcement mode based on the kinetic state of the portable electronic device, which is determined based on the measurement by the measuring unit, and the kinetic state of the external device, which is acquired via the wireless communication unit; and an announcement controller that controls the announcement unit to issue the announcement based on the setting made by the announcement setting unit.
