Abstract:
P,P''-OXYBIS(BENZENSULFONAMIDE) MONOHYDRATE IS A NOVEL COMPOUND WHICH MAY BE PREPARED BY TREATING P,P''OXYBIS(BENZENESULFONYL CHLORIDE) WITH AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE. IT IS USEFUL AS AN INTUMESCENT AGENT.
Abstract:
Intumescent compositions of the invention comprise certain arylsulfonamidopyridazines, such as 3-sulfanilamidopyridazine and derivatives thereof. The intumescent agents may be employed in conjunction with additives conventionally used in intumescent compositions. For use in protecting substrates from heat and fire, the intumescent compositions may be applied to the substrate in any suitable manner, such as by electro-deposition, spraying onto an adhesive substrate, or the application of a coating composition comprising the intumescent agent.
Abstract:
DIPENTAERYTHRITOL IS USED TO IMPROVE THE HOMOGENEITY, AND THUS THE EFFECTIVENESS, OF THE FOAMED CHAR PRODUCED BY THE INTUMSCENCE OF P,P''-OXYBIS(BENZENESULFONAMIDE) IN A VINYL CHLORIDE/VINYLIDENE CHLORIDE COPOLYMER BINDER.
Abstract:
1. INTUMESCENT COMPOSITIONS OF THE INVENTION COMPRISE CERTAIN ARYLSULFONAMIDOTRIAZOLES, SUCH AS THE SULFANILAMIDOTRIAZOLES AND DERIVATIVES THEREOF. THE INSTUMESCENT AGENTS MAY BE EMPLOYED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ADDITIVES CONVENTIONALLY USED IN INTUMESCENT COMPOSITIONS. FOR USE IN PROTECTING SUBSTRATES FROM HEAT AND FIRE, THE INTUMESCENT COMPOSITIONS MAY BE APPLIED TO THE SUBSTRATES IN ANY SUITABLE MANNER, SUCH AS BY ELECTRODEPOSITON, SPRAYING ONTO AN ADHESIVE SUBSTRATE, OR APPLICATION OF A COATING COMPOSITION COMPRISING THE INTUMESCENT AGENT.
Abstract:
Intumescent compositions of the invention comprise certain N4pyrimidylaminoarylsulfonamides, such as the N4-2-, 4-, and 5pyrimidylsulfanilamides. The intumescent agents may be employed in conjunction with additives conventionally used in intumescent compositions. For use in protecting substrates from heat and fire, the intumescent compositions may be applied in any suitable manner, such as by electrodeposition, spraying onto an adhesive substrate, or application of a coating composition comprising the intumescent agent.
Abstract:
Intumescent compositions of the invention comprise nitroarylsulfonamido-substituted 1,3,5-triazines, such as 2-(pnitrobenzenesulfonamido)-4,6-diamino-1,3,5-triazine. The intumescent agents are employed in a process for protecting a substrate from heat and fire. The intumescent agents may be employed in conjunction with conventional additives.
Abstract:
ARTICLES COATED WITH INTUMESCENT COMPOSITIONS WHICH COMPRISE CERTAIN POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC POLYSULFONAMIDES, SUCH AS NAPHTHALENE, ANTHRACENE, PHENANTHRENE, BIPHENYL, AND TERPHENYL POLYSULFONAMIDES. THE INTUMESCENT AGENTS MAY BE PREPARED BY CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND MAY BE EMPLOYED IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONVENTIONAL ADDITIVES. AMONG THE PREFERRED INTUMESCENT AGENTS ARE THE 1,5-,2,6AND 2,7-NAPHTHALENEDISULFONAMIDES AND THE O,O''-, M,M''AND P,P''-DISULFONAMIDOBIPHENYLS.
Abstract:
ARTICLES COATED WITH INTUMESCENT COMPOSITIONS WHICH COMPRISES CERTAIN BIS(AROMATIC SULFONAMIDES) WHEREIN THE AROMATIC RINGS ARE LINKED BY A DIVALENT FUNCTIONAL GROUP SUCH AS AN OXY, THIO, SULFINYL, SULFONYL, IMINO, UREIDO, THIOUREIDO, GUANIDO, CARBONATE, PHOSPHATE, OR ALKYLENE GROUP. THE INTUMESCENT AGENTS MAY BE PREPARED BY CONVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND MAY BE EMPLOYED IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONVENTIONAL ADDITIVES. PREFERRED INTUMESCENT AGENTS ARE THOSE IN WHICH TWO BENZENESULFONAMIDE GROUPS ARE LINKED BY AN OXY, UREIDO, SULFONYL, OR IMINO GROUP.
Abstract:
A BINDER SHOWING THERMAL CHANGE AT A SUITABLE TEMPERATURE IS USED TO DISSOLVE OR DISPERSE AN AROMATIC SULFONAMIDE INTUMESCENT AGENT BEARING A NUCLEAR SUBSTITUENT WHICH IS LINKED TO THE AROMATIC RING THROUGH A NITROGEN ATOM. AMONG THE PREFERRED BINDERS ARE SUITABLE VINYL CHLORIDE/VINYLIDENE CHLORIDE AND VINYL CHLORIDE/VINYL ACETATE COPOLYMERS, CHLORINATED RUBBER, AND CHLORINATED OR CHLOROSULFONATED POLYETHYLENES. THE PREFERRED INTUMESCENT AGENTS ARE P-AMINOBENZENE SULFONAMIDE AND P-ACETAMIDOBENZENESULFONAMIDE.
Abstract:
Non-flaming intumescent compositions are obtained by mixing a normally self-extinguishing intumescent agent with a haloorganophosphorus compound, e.g., a phosphate, thiophosphate, phosphonate, phosphonite, phosphinite, phosphite, thiophosphite, tertiary phosphine, phosphine oxide, or phosphine sulfide. Among the preferred haloorganophosphorus compounds are halohydrocarbon phosphates, such as tris(2,3-dibromopropyl)phosphate, tris(2,3dichloropropyl)phosphate, tris(tribromophenyl)phosphate, etc.
