Abstract: A printer is operable to implement one of a subscription configuration or trade use configuration. The printer can implement one of the subscription configuration or trade use configuration. When the subscription configuration is implemented, the printer restrictively controls, at least temporarily, use of the printing material resource that is installed on the printer. When the trade use configuration is implemented, the printer provides for less or no control over the use of the printing material resource.

The scanned form includes a unique identifier that indicates that the action is to occur when the form is scanned. The unique identifier is detected in the scanned form data. The scanned form data may be transmitted to a server to use the unique identifier to identify the action to execute for processing the scanned data.
