    Abstract: A dryer appliance and a method of operating the same to detect blockages are provided. The dryer appliance includes an exhaust conduit that defines a flow restriction and is in fluid communication with a drying chamber. A differential pressure sensor is operably coupled to the exhaust conduit at the flow restriction and a controller is configured for using a measured pressure differential to obtain an air flow rate and determine whether a blockage is present in the exhaust conduit, e.g., by comparing the measured flow rate to a baseline, zero-blockage flow rate.

    Abstract: A washing machine appliance includes a wash tub defining a tub inlet, a wash basket rotatably mounted within the wash tub, and a motor including a rotor for rotating the wash basket. The washing machine appliance also includes a fan assembly positioned behind the wash tub and including a plurality of fan blades that are operably coupled to and extend from the rotor. A fan housing is positioned around the plurality of fan blades and defines a fan outlet in fluid communication with the tub inlet of the wash tub such that the fan blades generate a flow of air which is provided into the wash basket when the rotor is rotating.

Also included may be determining an article load size within the drying chamber based on the measured velocity, and directing a power output at the heater based on the determined article load size.

    Abstract: A fan assembly for a dryer appliance is provided. The fan assembly includes an inlet duct that fluidly couples a chamber of the dryer appliance to a fan inlet. The inlet duct includes one or more guide vanes that are configured to direct the air in a manner that improves the pressure rise across the fan, thereby improving appliance performance. For example, the guide vanes may be positioned and oriented to generate a negative pre-swirl of the flow of air, such that the flow of air enters the fan inlet rotating in a direction opposite the direction of rotation of an impeller. Additionally, or alternatively, one or more guide vanes may be positioned and oriented to generate a laminar flow of otherwise turbulent air from the chamber of the dryer appliance.
