Abstract: Technology described herein relates to systems, methods, and computer readable media to enable a millimeter wave capable small cell (MCSC) devices to receive a handover of a user equipment from a universal mobile telecommunications system terrestrial radio access node B (eNB). In particular, systems and methods are described for user equipment (UE) association with a MCSC operating as a booster for an eNB in a time division duplexing (TDD) system, including identification of and communication on preferred cell sector between the UE and the MCSC. Protocols for concurrently performing a beam search and time and frequency synchronization for downlink communication are also described. Several sub-frame designs to facilitate these protocols are also described.

Abstract: Various embodiments are generally directed to techniques to identify the target of a packet in a wireless network. A transmitter node may include a connection identifier to generate a unique identifier corresponding to a connection between the transmitter node and a receiver node in the wireless network and a data packet transmitter to embed the unique identifier into a physical layer convergence protocol header corresponding to a packet to be transmitted to the receiver node. A node may include a data packet receiver to receive a physical layer convergence protocol header corresponding to a packet to be transmitted from a transmitter node in the wireless network to a receiver node in the wireless network and a header decoder to decode a unique identifier from the physical layer convergence protocol header, the unique identifier corresponding to a connection between the transmitter node and the receiver node.
