Abstract:
A system and method for providing telecommunications special services to customers of a communications service provider includes receiving first communications signals from customer premise equipment. The first communications signals may be processed using a special services card to generate second communications signal. The second communications signal may be communicated to a line termination unit operating externally from a BBDLC. The second communications signal may be processed by the line termination unit to generate a third communications signal. The third communications signal may be communicated to a transport card operating in the BBDLC. By externally processing special services signals from the BBDLC, bandwidth of the BBDLC may be utilized more efficiently.
Abstract:
A system and method for managing video content through a set-top box. User input is received to record the video content to a set-top box. Digital rights management parameters associated with the set-top box are determined. The video content is recorded directly to the set-top box in response to the DRM parameters. The video content is edited based on selections by a user in response to receiving a selection to edit the video content. Preferences for distributing the video content are determined. The video content is distributed from the set-top box to a number of addresses in response to the preferences.
Abstract:
A router is operatively coupled to a plurality of local computers and has one or more connections to a remote computer network for managing one or more data routes between the local computers and the remote computer network. In providing dynamic access to the remote computer network by any of the local computers, one or more of the connection(s) of the router to the remote computer network includes one or more wireless connections independent of the router between the local computers and the remote computer network.
Abstract:
Among other things, there are disclosed structures, systems and methods for monitoring and regulating access by consumers to computer network bandwidth, particularly with regard to peer-to-peer file sharing. A router (in certain embodiments, a core router) is programmed with a predetermined number of open or open and active internet protocol (IP) sessions a particular computer is allowed. Requests to open sessions that do not exceed that number are permitted. Requests to open sessions that exceed that number may be rejected, or an offer obtain additional session(s), perhaps with additional payment, may be made.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide a system and method for managing events associated with the detection of wireless devices. The disclosed embodiments utilize a residential wireless access point for detecting the signal transmitted by a wireless device. A user configures a wireless device detection program to perform specified events in response to the detection and/or absence of a wireless device. The disclosed embodiments may provide home automation functions, home security functions, and/or provide child monitoring features.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for monitoring a location is presented. The method includes monitoring one or more entryways of a building to detect when an entryway of the building is being opened and responsive to detecting an entryway of the building being opened, the method monitors for a presence of one or more wireless devices within a range of a residential wireless access point located within the building. In response to detecting the presence a wireless device within the range of the residential wireless access point, the method identifies an identifier associated with the wireless device. The method determines whether the identifier associated with the wireless device is registered with the residential wireless access point and responsive to the identifier associated with the wireless device being unregistered with the residential wireless access point, the method performs a user-specified event.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a system and method for managing access to a mobile telecommunication account by disabling use of a mobile device associated with a mobile telecommunication account or sub account when the mobile network detects that a restriction contained in a restriction database is violated.
Abstract:
A system and method for automating proactive communication. The information for the desired contacts may be accepted from a user. A selection of contact communication frequency preferences may be received from a user. An automatic communication to one of the desired contacts may be initiated. The user may be allowed to cancel the automatic communication, in response to receiving a notification that the communication is about to begin. A response indicative of the communication status may be received. Rules and preferences may be optimized based upon the received response.
