    摘要: An oxygen sensor element is provided which may be used in an oxygen sensor designed to measure the concentration of oxygen contained in exhaust gasses of an automotive internal combustion engine. The gas sensor element includes a solid electrolyte body, a target gas electrode, a reference gas electrode, and a catalytic layer formed over the target gas electrode. The catalytic layer is made of heat resisting ceramic grains which hold thereon catalytic metal grains whose average grain size is 0.3 to 2.0 &mgr;m, a weight of catalytic metal grains per unit area of the catalytic layer, as defined by projecting the target gas electrode on a plane, is 10 to 200 &mgr;g/cm2. This facilitates the reaction of exhaust gasses such as H2, NOx, and HC with O2 over the target gas electrode, thus resulting in improved accuracy of a sensor output over a wide temperature range.

    摘要: A gas sensor element is provided which is used in a gas sensor such as an oxygen sensor. The gas sensor element includes a solid electrolyte body, a target gas electrode provided on a surface of the solid electrolyte body so as to be exposed to a gas to be measured, and a reference gas electrode provided on a surface of the solid electrolyte body so as to be exposed to a reference gas. Each of the target gas electrode and the reference gas electrode is made up of a plurality of crystal grains defined by grain boundaries. The total length of the grain boundaries in each of the target gas electrode and the reference gas electrode is 1000 &mgr;m or more in a surface area of 1000 &mgr;m2. This ensures a sufficient degree of diffusion of the gasses in the target and reference gas electrodes, thereby providing a rapid response rate to the gas sensor element.

    摘要: According to the present invention, an oxygen sensor element includes a solid electrolyte having a side surface at one side thereof, the side surface being contactable with a gas to be measured, a skeletal electrode provided on the side surface and having a plurality of pore portions, each of the pore portions passing through the skeletal electrode up to the solid electrolyte, and a reactive electrode made of a porous film and provided in each of the pore portions, a thickness of the porous film being smaller than that of said skeletal electrode. An area percentage (SH/SZ) which is a ratio of a total area (SH) of the reactive electrode to a total area (SZ) of the skeletal electrode and the reactive electrode is in a range from 10 to 50%, an average area (SA) of the pore portions is 100 .mu.m.sup.2 or less, a film thickness of the skeletal electrode is in a range from 1.5 to 4 .mu.m, and the film thickness of the reactive electrode is in a range from 0.6 to 1.5 .mu.m. The oxygen sensor element is superior in the heat resistance characteristics and the response characteristics.

    摘要: The oxygen sensor has a solid electrolytic element made of an oxygen ion-conducting metal oxide. This element is formed in a cup shape, closed at one end and opened at its other end. The outer peripheral surface of the element is exposed to exhaust gas, and the inner peripheral surface of the element is exposed to the atmosphere. A first electrode is fixed to the outer peripheral surface of the element, and a second electrode is fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the element. An electrically insulating layer is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the element except where the first electrode is disposed. A metal lead of thin film, connected to the first electrode, is formed on the insulating layer. Further, a retaining lead connected to the first electrode is formed on the metal lead. This retaining lead is formed by densely sintering a conductive material and a binding material.
