Abstract: A mattress-retention mechanism is provided that prevents a mattress from moving on an adjustable bed during articulation. The mechanism includes a rod held between two retainer ends. The rod is held on the mattress bottom within a tube. The retainer ends have a downwardly extending leg that passes through a corresponding hole in the bed base. Each leg has a toothed rack that can be engaged by a latch. Each retainer end is held in place by a latch assembly coupled to the bottom of the adjustable bed base. The latch assembly has a retainer block that holds a latch, and a biasing mechanism. The biasing mechanism operates to move the latch into engagement with the leg of the retainer end. The mechanism maintains the mattress in place relative to the adjustable bed base, while being hidden from view.

Abstract: A system and method for calibrating one or more sensing features for a furniture item detection is provided. More particularly, embodiments relate to determining a first noise state associated with an environment of the furniture item based on a first measured noise received from one or more sensors associated with the furniture item. A first baseline noise level for the furniture item can be generated based on filtering the first noise state associated with the environment of the furniture item. A second noise state associated with the environment of the furniture item can be determined based on a second measured noise received from the one or more sensors associated with the furniture item. A second baseline noise level for the furniture item can be generated based on filtering the second noise state associated with the environment of the furniture item. The first baseline noise level can then be adjusted to the second baseline noise level.

Abstract: A system and method for incorporating occupancy-detecting technology into furniture is provided. More particularly, the invention relates to detecting occupancy in a recliner using a sinuous wire detection array incorporated into a seat. Further embodiments of the invention are directed to a system and method for incorporating capacitance detection technology with one or more conductive features of a recliner mechanism. In some aspects, a sensor is provided based on coupling one or more conductive features to a control component of the capacitance detector control component. A controller may determine the corresponding response based on occupancy detection and/or presence detection. A processor may receive information regarding changes in capacitance and determines when a change in voltage satisfies a threshold. Based on a determination of occupancy and/or presence, a variety of corresponding features of the adjustable recliner may be activated.
