Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a high hydrophobic silica aerogel having a low tap density and a hydrophobic silica aerogel prepared thereby. The method of preparing a hydrophobic silica aerogel according to the present invention may have good productivity and economic efficiency, because preparation time is reduced by simultaneously performing surface modification and solvent substitution in a single step, and may control a degree of hydrophobicity of the prepared silica aerogel by controlling a surface modification reaction by including a step of adding ammonium hydroxide. Thus, a hydrophobic silica aerogel having excellent physical properties, such as tap density and specific surface area, as well as high hydrophobicity obtained by controlling the degree of hydrophobicity may be prepared.

Abstract: Provided is a method for producing hydrophobic silica aerogel granules and hydrophobic silica aerogel granules produced thereby, the hydrophobic silica aerogel granules having a suppressed level of specific surface area deterioration and scattering properties. In the method for producing the hydrophobic silica aerogel granules, surface modification, gelation, and solvent substitution can be simultaneously performed in one step, thereby decreasing production time and increasing productivity. Also, by adjusting the addition amount of a non-polar organic solvent when proceeding with a reaction, hydrophobic silica aerogel granules with suppressed scattering properties can be produced. In addition, the hydrophobic silica aerogel granules are silica aerogel particles induced to agglomerate with each other through physical bonding, so that there is an advantage in that the granules can be easily changed into a powder form, thereby having excellent industrial applicability.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing an aerogel blanket exhibiting excellent hydrophobicity at high temperatures and an aerogel blanket produced thereby. The present invention uses a mixture of silica sol and a hydrophobic aerogel powder as an aerogel precursor and thus can achieve hydrophobicity in the internal structure as well as on the surface of the aerogel included in the aerogel blanket. Accordingly, the aerogel blanket can attain high hydrophobicity and thus can exhibit excellent hydrophobicity retention ability even in high-temperature applications.
