Abstract: A black exterior taillight assembly for a vehicle includes a blue light source configured to generate blue light. The black exterior taillight assembly also includes a blue filter overlying the blue light source and configured pass the blue light therethrough while blocking other colors of light. The black exterior taillight assembly also includes a phosphor layer overlying the blue filter and configured to absorb the blue light and to emit red light. The black exterior taillight assembly also includes a red filter overlying the phosphor layer and configured to pass the red light therethrough while blocking other colors of light.

Abstract: A vehicle headlight has a segmented light guide device in which segments are selectively controlled to operate in an output state that reduces glare to oncoming vehicle drivers. Vehicle sensors and controller circuitry are used to identify areas of glare removal in the light pattern of the headlight and control the corresponding segments in the light guide device to operate in a selected light output state that reduces glare. The segments can be operated in a focused output state for vehicle driver visibility, or in a scattered output state to reduce glare. The segments can be operated in a clear or transparent output state for vehicle driver visibility, or in a reflected output state to reduce glare. Reflected light can optionally be re-directed. The light guide device can employ bi-stable liquid crystal shuttering or liquid crystal switchable mirror technology.

Abstract: A non-contact obstacle detection (NCOD) system for a motor vehicle and a method of operating the non-contact obstacle detection system are disclosed. The NCOD system includes a main electronic control unit adapted to connect to a power source. At least one non-contact obstacle sensor is coupled to the main electronic control unit for detecting obstacles near a closure member of the vehicle. The control unit is configured to detect movement of the closure member, detect no obstacle using the at least one non-contact obstacle sensor, and alter movement of the closure member in response to no obstacle being detected while movement of the closure member is detected.

Abstract: A sensor assembly for detecting an object and a method of forming a sensor port in sheet metal are disclosed. The sensor assembly includes at least one electromagnetic source for emitting electromagnetic waves. The sensor assembly also includes at least one electromagnetic receiver for receiving the electromagnetic waves after reflecting from the object and corresponding with a detection of the object in proximity to the sensor assembly. In addition, the sensor assembly includes a filter cover disposed adjacent to and covering the at least one electromagnetic source and the at least one electromagnetic receiver configured to allow the electromagnetic waves to pass therethrough while reflecting visible light, thereby concealing the at least one electromagnetic source and the at least one electromagnetic receiver.

Abstract: An electronic latch system for a motor vehicle includes an electronic latch (e-latch) including an e-latch controller within a door of the vehicle. A plurality of radar sensors are located within the door for performing non-contact detection of objects around the vehicle. The radar sensors include an outside-face sensor adjacent an outside face of the door to sense an object within a first sensing zone extending from the outside face. The radar sensors also include an inner sensor adjacent an inside surface of the door to sense an object within a second sensing zone extending from the inside surface. The radar sensors also include a shut-face sensor adjacent a shut face of the door to sense an object within a third sensing zone extending from the shut face. The e-latch includes a light source for projecting a warning image and an audio source for generating an audible warning.

Abstract: A closure panel system for a motor vehicle comprising: a closure panel mounted to a body of the motor vehicle for movement between a closed position and a fully-open position, the closure panel having an interior surface with at least one of a handle and a door switch mounted on the interior surface adjacent to an edge, the edge defining a transition between the interior surface and an exterior surface of a panel body of the closure panel; and a flap positioned on the motor vehicle adjacent to the edge while being off of and separate to the panel body of the closure panel or mounted on the body panel of the closure panel, the flap covering a recess volume of the motor vehicle adjacent to the least one of the handle and the door switch, such that the least one of the handle and the door switch is accessible via the recess volume once the cover flap is operated; wherein a latch assembly mounted on the handleless closure panel is operated by the at least one of the handle and the door switch.
