    Abstract: Devices and methods described herein provide for controlling an operating mode of a power tool. Controlling the power tool includes operating, by a motor controller, a motor of the power tool in a first operating mode. Controlling the power tool also includes detecting, by the motor controller, a position of a forward-reverse selector of the power tool, and receiving, by the motor controller, a signal from a mode selector. Controlling the power tool also includes determining, by the motor controller, whether the position of the forward-reverse selector is in the mode selection position, and in response to determining that the forward-reverse selector is in the mode selection position, changing, by the motor controller, the power tool to a second operating mode based on the signal received from the mode selector.

    Abstract: A power tool includes a housing and a sensor, a machine learning controller, a motor, and an electronic controller supported by the housing. The sensor is configured to generate sensor data indicative of an operational parameter of the power tool. The machine learning controller includes a first processor and a first memory and is coupled to the sensor. The machine learning controller further includes a machine learning control program configured to receive the sensor data, process the sensor data using the machine learning control program, and generate an output based on the sensor data using the machine learning control program. The electronic controller includes a second processor and a second memory and is coupled to the motor and to the machine learning controller. The electronic controller is configured to receive the output from the machine learning controller and control the motor based on the output.

    Abstract: A rotary impact tool including a motor having a motor shaft that produces a rotational output to drive a gear assembly and a drive assembly driven by the gear assembly. The drive assembly including a hammer coupled to the motor shaft and an anvil configured to receive an impact from the hammer. The rotary impact tool includes a torque stick coupled to the anvil and configured to limit the amount of deliverable torque to a workpiece in accordance with a torsional stiffness of the torque stick, a position sensor to detect angular displacement of the anvil, and a controller in electrical communication with the position sensor. The controller calculates torque delivered to the workpiece from the impact by multiplying the torsional stiffness of the torque stick and the signal from the position sensor, and control the motor based on the torque delivered to the workpiece.

    Abstract: A multi-size tool bit holder includes a first sleeve having a first bit holding bore extending along an axis, and a second sleeve coupled for co-rotation with the first sleeve and movable relative to the first sleeve between a first position and a second position. The second sleeve includes a second bit holding bore. A first bit shank of a first nominal size is insertable into the first bit holding bore when the second sleeve is in the second position to secure the first bit shank within the first sleeve. A second bit shank of a second nominal size different than the first nominal size is insertable into the second bit holding bore when the second sleeve is in the first position to secure the second bit shank within the second sleeve.

    Abstract: A rotary impact tool includes a housing, an electric motor supported in the housing, and an impact mechanism for converting a continuous torque input from the motor to consecutive rotational impacts upon a workpiece. The impact mechanism includes an anvil and a hammer that is both rotationally and axially movable relative to the anvil for imparting the consecutive rotational impacts upon the anvil. The hammer is configured to rotate about an axis in a rotational direction when imparting the consecutive rotational impacts upon the anvil. The impact mechanism also includes a spring for biasing the hammer in an axial direction toward the anvil, and a means for biasing the anvil in the rotational direction about the axis.

The electronic processor is further configured to control the motor based on the generated output.
