Abstract: A device and method for locking in button context based on a source contact of an electronic communication is provided. An electronic communication is received, via a communication interface, from a source contact. A controller detects that a button, of one or more buttons external to the device, has been activated, each of the one or more buttons mapped to activation of respective functions. The controller identifies a respective function mapped to the button. When the button is activated within a threshold time period after receiving the electronic communication, the controller performs the respective function using the source contact from which the electronic communication was received. When the button is activated after the threshold time period, the controller performs the respective function independent of the source contact.

Abstract: A system and methods for content presentation selection. One method includes displaying, on a display of a portable device, a plurality of tiles. The method includes receiving a first gesture-based input corresponding to a selected tile of the plurality of tiles. The method includes selecting a first application based on the content of the selected tile. The method includes superimposing, on or near a first portion of the selected tile, a first icon corresponding to the first application. The method includes receiving a second gesture-based input selecting the first icon. The method includes retrieving, from the first application, a first application view based on the content. The method includes replacing the selected tile with the first application view.

Abstract: A portable communication device (100) comprises a housing that provides an elongated aperture (114) having a non-touch user interface (116) residing therein. The non-touch user interface (116) is formed of an elongated rounded rectangular shaped body. A plurality of non-touch user interface features (118) are spaced apart side-by-side along the single elongated rounded rectangular shaped body of the non-touch user interface (116). The elongated aperture (114) with non-touch user interface (116) residing therein define a visible non-touch user interface zone (120) on the surface of the portable communication device for the protection of the non-touch user interface features (118).

Abstract: A force-scalable stationary interface control is provided. The control includes a knob-like structure including an axis and a fixed surface located at least partially around the axis, and a touch sensor located at least partially around the fixed surface, the touch sensor configured to sense a plurality of different levels of applied pressure and locations of touch input. The control further includes at least one output device. The control further includes a controller configured to: identify a first level of applied pressure sensed at the touch sensor, identify a scrolling action based on a detected change in locations of the touch input sensed at the touch sensor, identify a current scale of the scrolling action based on an identified first level of applied pressure, and control the at least one output device to provide an identified current scale and an identified scrolling action.
