    摘要: Mobile user equipment for use in a cellular communications environment performs an improved cell selection on transitions out of a connected mode state. The transitions might be from one connected mode state to another or from a connected mode state to idle mode. The improvement in cell selection lies in assembling the list of candidate cells prior to cell selection. In the prior art, the list of candidate cells would usually be restricted to the serving cell or active cells supporting communication between the equipment and the network prior to transition. In embodiments of the invention, the list might comprise cells which are not the serving cell or which are outside the active set, for example a network-preferred cell or cells neighbouring the serving cell or cells of the active set.

    摘要: In Radio Link control (REC) apparatus, a mechanism is provided for detecting missing or corrupted data units at the receiving end of a transmission link, requesting retransmission and then monitoring the response to the retransmission request. Distinctively, a receiving communications entity 300 is equipped to act on a nil response. If no data unit is retransmitted, the receiving entity triggers at least one repeat retransmission request. This is the case even if no further data unit is received after the retransmission request is triggered. Retransmission requests are repeated up to a preset number, whereafter a different recovery mechanism is triggered.

    摘要: Apparatus, and an associated method, for identifying availability of services in a radio network of a radio communication system. A system information message is generated at the radio access network that identifies the service availability of the radio network, such as by indicating the communication services supported by the network. The system information message, once generated, is communicated upon a broadcast control channel, or other appropriate channel, and delivered to a mobile node. The mobile node detects the system information message and determines the availability of services of the radio network therefrom. Selection of whether to register with the network is made responsive to whether the network supports the communication service that the mobile node intends to initiate.
