Abstract: A manufacturing method of a glass panel unit of the present invention includes a bonding step, a pressure reduction step, and a sealing step. In the bonding step, a first substrate and a second substrate are hermetically bonded together with a seal having a frame shape. In the pressure reduction step, a pressure in an inside space formed between the first substrate and the second substrate is reduced through an exhaust port. In the sealing step, sealant disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate is deformed, and the sealant thus deformed seals an opening of the exhaust port.

Abstract: A glass panel unit assembly includes a pair of glass substrates arranged to face each other, a peripheral wall, a partition, an air passage, and an evacuation port. The peripheral wall has a frame shape and is provided between the pair of glass substrates. The partition partitions an internal space, surrounded with the pair of glass substrates and the peripheral wall, into a first space and a second space. The air passage connects the first space and the second space together. The evacuation port connects the second space to an external environment. The partition has a broader width than the peripheral wall.

Abstract: A first substrate, having an evacuation port, and a second substrate are bonded together with a first sealing material in a frame shape interposed between them to create an internal space. The internal space is evacuated through the evacuation port, and the evacuation port is sealed up with the internal space kept evacuated. At this time, a second sealing material inserted into the evacuation port is heated and melted while being pressed toward the second substrate such that the evacuation port is sealed up with the second sealing material melted. The evacuation port and the second sealing material have dissimilar shapes when viewed along the center axis of the evacuation port in a state where the second sealing material has been inserted into the evacuation port but has not melted yet.

Abstract: A manufacturing method of a glass panel for a glass panel unit includes a melting step, a spreading step, an annealing step, a cutting step, and a spacer disposition step. The spacer disposition step is a step of disposing spacers onto a glass sheet and is performed by a spacer disposition device prior to the cutting step.

Abstract: In s glass panel unit, a pitch of pillars is determined such that a distortion of a first panel and second panel is smaller than an interval between the first panel and the second panel. The distortion is calculated based on the interval between the first panel and the second panel, load loading compression fracture per one pillar of the multiple pillars, Young's moduli of the first panel and the second panel, thicknesses of the first panel and the second panel, and Poisson's ratios of the first panel and the second panel.

Abstract: A glass panel unit manufacturing method includes a bonding step, a pressure reducing step, and a sealing step. The bonding step includes bonding together a first substrate and a second substrate with a first sealant to create an inner space. The pressure reducing step includes producing a reduced pressure in the inner space through an exhaust port that the first substrate has. The sealing step includes melting and expanding a second sealant, inserted into the exhaust port, by heating the second sealant and thereby sealing the exhaust port up with the second sealant expanded to the point of coming into contact with a dam arranged in the inner space.

Abstract: A glass panel unit includes a first pane of glass, and a second pane of glass facing the first pane of glass with the panes of glass spaced a predetermined interval apart. The glass panel includes a seal disposed between the panes of glass and joined to them in an airtight manner, and an interior space encompassed with the panes of glass and the seal. The glass panel unit includes: a partition wall disposed in the interior space and divides the interior space into a first space as a vacuum space and a second space; an air release vent formed in a first or second pane of glass and communicates with the second space; and a blocking member provided in the air release vent.

Abstract: The glass panel unit is a predetermined part separated from a completed assembly obtained by subjecting a temporary assembly to a predetermined process. In the temporary assembly, the inside space (500) enclosed by the first and second glass substrates and the frame is divided into the first space and the second space with the partition and the gas adsorbent is inside the first space. The predetermined process includes: converting the first space into the evacuated space by evacuating the first space through the gas passage, the second space, and the outlet; and changing a shape of the partition to close the gas passage to form the seal enclosing the evacuated space. The predetermined part includes: a first and second glass panels being parts of the first and second glass substrates; the seal; the evacuated space; and the gas adsorbent.

Abstract: A work in progress includes: a pair of glass substrates arranged to face each other; a peripheral wall having a frame shape and disposed between the pair of glass substrates; a boundary wall; and an evacuation port. The boundary wall hermetically separates an internal space, surrounded with the pair of glass substrates and the peripheral wall, into an evacuation space, a buffer space, and a ventilation space. The evacuation port connects the ventilation space to an external environment. The evacuation space and the buffer space have a lower internal pressure than the ventilation space. A predetermined part, including the evacuation space but excluding parts covering the buffer space and the ventilation space, of the work in progress, forms the glass panel unit.
