A method of setting alert thresholds in the context of a real-time dashboard chart. An application program displays a graphical user interface (GUI) and dynamically updates a chart of real-time event data. The chart includes an event threshold bar displayed concurrently with the real-time event data. If the real-time event data has exceeded an event threshold value that corresponds to a position of the event threshold bar, the application program executes a pre-defined response function. If a click and drag input is received while a cursor is located over a graphically-textured handle located on an end of the event threshold bar, the application program moves the event threshold bar to a new location and updates a numerical threshold value that corresponds to the position of the event threshold bar. The numerical threshold value and a unique identification symbol are displayed in close proximity to the graphically-textured handle.

The first memory is configured to receive and store data from the server and it is accessible by the subscriber. A second memory is also communicatively connected to the server. The tutorial system includes a first display control for generating a tutorial window in a first portion of the video display. A second display control is provided for generating a product window in a second portion of the video display. A tutorial presentation system selectively generates a plurality of tutorial text panels in response to input from the input system. The tutorial text panels include one or more lesson panels and one or more step panels associated with each lesson panel. A tutorial panel linking system links the lesson panels through a series of sequential links and links the lesson panels and their associated step panels through a series of hierarchical links. A series of tutorial panel selectors are provided for selectively activating from a lesson or step panel a link to another lesson or step panel in order to display the linked panel.

More particularly, the preferred embodiment of the present invention provides an easy to use graphical user interface (GUI) for displaying, navigating, and selecting hierarchical database segments and fields. The preferred embodiment of the present invention novelly uses a hierarchical tree structure that clearly represents the structures of a database and their mutual exclusivity, for easy understanding of and navigation through the various database structures. The user is prevented from selecting segments and fields that are not valid for the selected path thereby ensuring accuracy in the representation of the database data structures. Also, the user may select a path from the top of the hierarchical tree, the root, to a specific segment or field.

The class specifications are generated using a command line interface of a class definition tool. A database description and a record layout associated with the hierarchical database are captured and associated to define a specification for the database. Class definitions are then generated from the database specification, wherein the class definitions are instantiated as objects in the objects framework that encapsulate data retrieved from the database.

An improved Yomi and Kanji phrase editing method and system are provided. In accordance with the invention, a structured document editor includes a normal state, a Yomi state, a Kanji state, and an active state. In the normal state, when the operator types Yomi characters on the keyboard, the corresponding Yomi character is directly displayed on the display. In the Yomi state, when a Yomi character is typed on the keyboard, a Yomi text node structure is assembled. The text node structure in the Yomi state will include the Yomi character string along with control information. When the operator wishes to convert the Yomi phrases into the corresponding Kanji phrases, the Yomi string is accessed from the Yomi text node structure and is subjected to a conversion process. The process returns each Kanji phrase and the corresponding Yomi phrase and a bookmark to the conversion table which was used in carrying out the conversion. In accordance with the invention, the returned Kanji phrase and corresponding Yomi phrase and the bookmark are assembled into a new text node structure. The new text node structure assembles a Kanji phrase structure and a corresponding Yomi phrase structure for each Kanji phrase returned in the conversion process. The Kanji phrase structure includes a pointer to the corresponding Yomi phrase structure and the Yomi phrase structure, in turn, includes a return pointer to the Kanji phrase structure. Also included in the Kanji phrase structure and Yomi phrase structure is control information which provides for the display of the Kanji phrase structure which will substitute the Yomi phrase structure.
