摘要: A sealed unit includes at least two sheets of transparent or translucent material separated from each other by a spacer. One example of a spacer for a sealed unit includes a first elongate strip, a second elongate strip, and filler arranged therebetween. The first and second elongate strips have a small undulating shape in some embodiments. Methods of making spacers and window assemblies as well as devices for use in the manufacture of spacers and assemblies are disclosed including a manufacturing jig and a spool storage rack. The spool storage rack stores a plurality of spools configured to store spacer materials thereon.

摘要: A connector key for joining spacer member ends in multi-pane window units. A connector key and methods for joining spacer member ends are provided. The connector key can include a top central depression, side walls having top gaps, side shoulders having channels and recesses, all providing opportunity for sealant to flow from the central depression over the side regions of the connector key. Connector keys can also have holes through the bottom floor of the central depression to the bottom of a connector key and further through bottom channels provided in the connector key. Methods are provided which include sliding a spacer member over each end of the connector key up to a central flange. Holes may be punched through the spacer material, preferably forming jagged portions which secure the spacer members to the connecting key. Sealant may be injected through the punched holes, and through the through holes in the connector key central depression floor. Injected sealant may thus flow into the central depression, over the side walls into the side recesses, and into the bottom channels. The connector key can provide temporary mechanical joinder while the sealant is curing, as well as mechanical rigidity and insulative gas sealing after curing.

摘要: A method for detecting seal failures during manufacture of an insulated glass unit. In this method, a partially assembled glass unit is placed within an enclosure and the enclosure is sealed with the partially assembled glass unit therein. An insulating gas is flowed into and an insulating gas/air mixture is exhausted from the enclosure until the concentration of insulating gas within the enclosure reaches a predetermined value. The pressure within the interpane space is adjusted to a predetermined ambient gauge pressure which represents a predetermined offset from ambient atmospheric pressure. The panes are pressed against the spacer, sealing the interpane space to yield a sealed insulated glass article. Surface profiles of the first and second panes of the sealed insulated glass article are measured to determine a thickness profile. A fault indicator is generated if the thickness profile does not show at least a predetermined deviation of the thickness profile from a predetermined baseline profile.
